On the Lot has declared a winner!
At last, after trailing the ratings for some months now, the reality show for film directors, “On the Lot” has come to an end. After cutting thousands of film directors and taking it down to 16, the audience has finally selected the winner, Will Bigham from Glendale, CA. This 31-year old film editor fared better than Jason Epperson 30, from Winchester, KY. The show is being broadcasted in Fox every Tuesday night at 8, Central.
The prize: $1 million development contract with DreamWorks. This has prompted more than 12,000 individual submissions making the feat of Will Bigham, quite remarkable. The finale was like an Emmy awards only that it’s a reality show. After the winner was announced, he was immediately transported to the gates of DreamWorks where Stephen Spielberg personally welcomed him.
If you haven’t heard of this reality show, we understand. This show only has 16 episodes and each of the show you’ll be seeing the competing directors create a short film and the voters can go online to vote, call or text. The premier episode is quite good since it shows the funny side of show and most of the movie shorts that were created are funny as well. Unfortunately, the show looks like an American Idol as they also have a very frank judge, Garry Marshall, the cool judge, Brett Ratner and the emotional judge, Carrie Fisher. Because of this the show didn’t fared well in the ratings. The season finale commanded only 2 million viewers and it took the 88th spot on that night. Maybe it was because the internet voting wasn’t working but frankly, it wasn’t really good right from the start as each of the judges in each episode doesn’t really seem to care of what they say and there’s not much action.
Hopefully, Mark Burnett and Stephen Spielberg will be better next time. This one didn’t really catch the imagination of everyone.
