Otto Makes an Error
Man, tonight’s show was really something. I loved that they divided the contestants into two teams, but it was odd how well it worked out for Team Vietnam and how awful it was for Team Korea.
Each team had $100 to spend at a market. Their task was to make food for people at the Project by Project charity event. As Team Korea was leaving the market, Otto said they didn’t pay for a box of their food (sorry, it was some vegetable, but I cannot remember the name). Marisa heard him and it ate at her until she told Elia. Elia mentioned it to Chef Tom, who confronted Otto. They decided the box had to go back to the store.
But, the problem was Team Kora never worked together as a team at any point. Their pork dish was excellent according to Chef Ming Tsai (who I love – I was so glad to see him on tonight’s show!), far superior to Team Vietnam’s pork dish. But the dessert that Marisa – the pastry chef – made was bad, bad, bad according to all the judges. Frank’s rice was sticky and unacceptable.
Once the judges started critiquing the food, fingers started pointing. They already knew walking in to see the judges that Team Vietnam had won. Betty was great, making the refresher and greeting everyone with that smile. Josie, having working for a Vietnamese chef, took charge and led the team to victory.
However, as the judges conferred, it seemed that Marisa’s disappointing dessert would lead to her elimination. But, before that could happen, while discussing the “stolen” box, Otto said he would take responsibility and bow out of the competition.
I liked Otto and who is to say that if they were on Top Chef, they might not try to get a jump on the competition somehow. I don’t like Marisa with her Cher-looking self and Elia ganging up on the guys. When asked if one person was responsible for the loss, Ilan said no. Cliff said the problem was lack of teamwork. Frank was the most vocal, talking about how everyone started turning on each other. All I know is Marisa better watch her back – Karma can be a real you-know-what.
