Project Runway: Back in New York
It was the season premiere of “Project Runway” and the gang is back where they belong – New York City! Actually, I didn’t mind LA that much, but I did miss Nina and Michael as judges.
The new contestants were Seth Aaron (who looked like he just walked off a ’80s video set), Janeane, Ping (who is a physical therapist from 9 to 5), Ben (who has worked in comic book illustration), Anthony (so far, my favorite designer – not necessary for design, but personality), Jay, Pamela (who was formerly in advertising), Anna, Jonathan, Jesse (who used to be an actor), Mila (who was in costume design), Maya (who has Mila’s haircut), Christiane, Jesus (who, at 21, is the youngest I think), Emilio (also in costume design), and Amy.
The challenge was to grab as much fabric as you could in three minutes and make an outfit that embodied who the designer was. After that, they were told they had to edit their fabric down to five pieces. Ping freaked Tim out because she puts her design on herself. Emilio also freaked him out because he was no where near finished when Tim came by. Tim poopooed Janeane’s design and she had to start over with only two hours left.
Personally, I thought Seth’s design looked like a tablecloth, that Ben’s was too futuristic, that Jay had too many flowery things attached to his dress, that Amy’s was just weird, and I disliked Mila’s fabric choices. But, that is why I am not a designer because all those designers were told they were safe.
I loved, loved, loved Emilio’s fun, flirty little dress and so did the designers. They also like Ping’s outfit. I was put off at first because it was not form fitting at all, but I did immediately love the flow of the material, as did the judges. Also in the top three was Seth Aaron’s tablecloth dress. Emilio was told he was the winner.
On the bottom were Jesus’s leather dress (which Nina said made the model look like a Hershey’s chocolate bar), Christiane’s dress (which had a bad hem – a bad hem?), and Anthony’s dress. I hated the sidebar, but the judge’s seem to feel it was okay enough to save him.
Christiane was sent home, I am assuming mostly for her poor sewing skills.
