Project Runway: Louise is Out
Heidi told the “Project Runway” contestants were told their next challenge would be quite colorful. The challenge was to create two outfits made of blue that were consistent with Macy’s Inc brand. The winner would get to design a holiday dress for sale in select Macy stores.
No one, however, was happy to hear it was a team challenge. After pitching their ideas to the Inc’s EVP Martine Reardon, she chose five designs: Irina (who teamed with Gordana), Althea (who teamed with Logan), Carol Hannah (who was teamed with Shirin), Christopher (who teamed with Epperson), and Louise (who teamed with Nicolas). Tim told the contestants that there would be no immunity for this win.
Gordana was driving Irina crazy at Mood and the partnership didn’t get any better back in the sewing room. Even Tim picked up on the disagreement. Louise was making ruffles and Nicolas said ruffles made him sick. However, Epperson and Christopher were totally working together. Christopher called them the “Dream Team.”
The judges were Michael Kors, senior fashion editor for Marie Clare Zanna Roberts, and Martine. I thought Louise’s dresses looked very romantic, even though Nicolas still thought the ruffles looked strange. I loved the colors of Carol Hannah’s outfits and the designs were so cute. I didn’t care for Christopher and Epperson’s shirt dress, but it was well made. Tim raved about it when he saw them working on it, saying they had “reinvented the shirtdress.”
Althea and Logan were told they had qualified to move on. Heidi told Louise and Nicolas and Christopher and Epperson that they had the lowest scores. Christopher and Epperson just looked dumb struck.
Martine said Carol Hannah and Shirin did a good job of interpreting the Inc brand. Michael loved both outfits. Gordana said it was a bit challenge working together, but she was happy with their outfits. Irina said Gordana was shy as a designer and should have taken on more of a role. Heidi and Martine loved the dress. Heidi said she loved the top, which was the one Irina had Gordana working on and was worried it was too plain. Michael said the blouse was pretty as well.
About Louise’s dress, Heidi asked who wore ruffles today. Martine said she liked ruffles, but it was the way they were done – overstated. Zanna said if she walked into Macy’s and saw the dresses, she’d walk back out, thinking she had entered a bad bridal shop. Ouch. Michael agreed it looked like a bridal dress. Heidi asked Nicolas what he thought. He said the ruffles weren’t his idea and Heidi told him he was lucky because he had immunity from last week.
Heidi told Christopher she was blown away by the outfits, but not in a good way – they weren’t very modern. Michael said the shirt dress looked like it belonged to a librarian from 1979. Heidi said the other outfit looked like she was eating lobster and forgot to take off the bib while Michael called her a “disco pumpkin.” Man, the judges were harsh tonight! Christopher started crying.
Irina was named the winner. The loser was between Louise and Christopher, with Heidi telling Nicolas he was very lucky he had immunity. Heidi told Louise she was out and Christopher was still in, which resulted in more tears from him.
