Project Runway: Malvin is Out
This week’s challenge on “Project Runway” was to design a chic and form-fitting dress for Rebecca Romijn. Now you might think that is no big deal, after all, she is a model. But, go back about a year and Rebecca was the very pregnant mother-to-be of twins. Yes, it was a pregnancy outfit challenge!
Malvin had an egg concept, which I think he must have caught from last week’s loser, Ari. It was just out there or as Nina put it “bizarre.” He had a cute shirt and pants with this burlapy looking sling in front. In fact, all the judges, who had all been pregnant, agreed that it would look like Rebecca had already had the babies and had them in a sling!
Just like last week, my favorite was Irina’s cute and fun dress, but she once again fell in the safe zone. Mitchell once again found himself on the bottom as did Ra’mon. Funny because Mitchell told Ra’mon when he was working on the dress that it looked like a bowling ball bag and that is exactly what Rebecca called it. The judges felt Mitchell’s outfit was just too poorly sewed, giving it a messy look.
The top three designers were Althea (Rebecca loved the lines), Louise (even though the look was a bit too lingerie), and Shirin (who produced what Heidi called the most wearable outfit). It was obvious Shirin was the winner. The judges even suggested that she start a maternity line even though that was her first maternity design.
Ra’mon and his bowling ball bag dress were told to leave the runway and it was between Mitchell and Malvin. Heidi told Mitchell he was safe, but that he just squeaked by. This is two weeks in a row of Mitchell squeaking – I am afraid if he doesn’t produce something incredible next week, he too will be going home.
