Project Runway: Ping is Out
This week’s “Project Runway” challenge was for the designers to come up with a signature look like those of iconic designers featured in the Metropolitan Museum of Art. But, the designers had to work in teams of two. They did have a $500 budget – the highest in “Project Runway” history. Tim threw in another twist later in the episode – the team had to create a “look for less” based on another team’s design with a budget of only $50.
The team leaders were Jay (who picked Maya), Jesus (who picked Amy), Anthony (who picked Seth Aaron), Janeane (who picked Ben), Mila (who picked Jonathan), Ping (who picked Jesse), and Emilio (who picked Anna Marie).
Ping and Jesse got along like water and oil – he was constantly criticizing her and her design, but then her designs are so out there, I can see that happening. Anthony and Seth Aaron had a playful animosity going on while Mila wanted to turn Jonathan into the seamstress.
The guest judge was designer Matthew Williamson. The two top designs were from Mila and Jonathan and Jay and Maya. The judges felt Jay’s look for less was better looking than Janeane’s original. Ouch. I didn’t care for Mila’s jacket design, but the judges loved it and she was named the winner.
Personally, I liked Anthony and Seth Aaron’s look, but Michael said he felt like he was at the cotillion from hell. The judges also agreed that the look for less, based on Jesus and Amy’s design, looked like something they just threw together because they were running out of time. It was nice for Seth Aaron to say it was a 50/50 thing between him and Anthony instead of throwing Anthony under the bus. Which is what Jesse and Ping’s model did. Jesse said he had to give Ping a sewing lesson and the model mentioned that Ping never fitted her for the look for less design.
I guess given the butt look from last week and this week’s design, which Nina said looked like fabric wrapped around the model, the judges decided that this really wasn’t Ping’s thing and they sent her home.
