Project Runway: Ra’mon is Out

This week’s “Project Runway” challenge was to select a film genre (such as western or science fiction) then invent a character who lives in that genre.

Ra’mon, who drew science fiction, had a lizard woman suit in mind, which I thought would look cool. But, it didn’t when he tried it on his model, so he had to start over. Carol Hannah admitted that sitting next to Logan was a distraction because he was so hot.

Epperson got stuck with western, but it served him well. His rancher lady’s dress was gorgeous and he landed in the top three. So did Christopher, whose western vampire dress was also incredible. But, it was Nicolas who took home the win with his sci-fi ice queen. The judges (including Oscar nominated costume designer Arianne Phillips, Marie Claire editor Zoe Glassner, and designer John Varvatos) loved his storyline and Zoe called it clever, bold, and risky.

Landing in the bottom three were Ra’mon, Gordana, and Louise. Ra’mon had what I thought was a cool idea – a futuristic lizard lady, but he scrapped it after Tim’s comments. Um, isn’t that what Jonny did last week then he went home? Anyhow, Heidi called Ra’mon’s outfit a “hot green mess.” The judges saw no originality in Gordana’s flapper look, but they did say it was well made. Adrianne said she wanted to like it, but John said it missed the mark. They judges also disliked Louise’s ’20s flapper in the ‘40s look. Zoe said it looked like a French maid outfit and the judges found it too convoluted.

The editing was weird this week as Nicolas was named the winner and Christopher was told he was safe, but we never saw Epperson leave the stage. That is okay, we knew he was safe, but there was no tension as to who was in the bottom two. We were never told when (or why for that matter) Gordona was safe. The show just cut to Ra’mon and Louise as being the bottom two. Ra’mon was told he was out and Louise burst into tears as she left the stage.
