Reality News: ‘Kid Nation’ Brings in Good Ratings
Controversy swirled around “Kid Nation” before its first broadcast, but when it did finally premiere it brought in 9.4 million viewers. It placed second behind a special NFL version of “Deal or No Deal” aired at the same time on NBC.
CBS has been under scrutiny about the show, which features 40 children ages 8 to 15 building their own community in the New Mexico desert – without the intervention of adults. Many think that CBS skirted child protection laws. Some critics have even wondered if the show put the children in unsafe conditions, especially after four children accidentally drank bleach during the production and another child was burned with cooking grease. CBS has said the incidents occurred, but first aid was administered immediately and that the show was well supervised at all times.
