Reality News: Kathy Griffin Sets Tongues to Wagging!
Kathy Griffin won her first Emmy last Saturday, but she made no friends with her acceptance speech. As she accepted her award, she told the audience “A lot of people come up here and thank Jesus for this. He had nothing to do with this… suck it Jesus, this award is my God now.”
Her little speech did not set well at all with the Catholic League, whose president Bill Donohue has asked The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences to read a statement during the live broadcast of the primetime Emmy show, denouncing her comments. While The Academy has said they have no plans to address Kathy’s comments, E! will censor her acceptance speech when it airs a scaled down version of the show on September 15.
Of her comments, Donohue said it was “kind of vulgar in-your-face brand of hate speech” coming from a self-described “complete militant atheist.” I may be wrong, but I thought Kathy Griffin was a Jew (which may explain the Jesus comment), but more importantly, she is a comedian. But, I think this is going over the line a bit.
However, this is the land of the free, home of the brave and if she is brave enough to say something like that on a show that millions, many Christians, will watch, so be it. She may lose fans, but the First Amendment says she can say whatever she wants. What do you think?

I think she knew exactly what she was doing with the comment. There isn’t such a thing as bad publicity and look at what she’s getting. She’s a D list star at best – even she knows it, look at the name of her show – so here’s a way for her to get people talking about her, even people who never watched the show. I don’t know that I would want to insult people the way she did using the words “suck it” but it’s worked to get her name in the news.
