Robert gets kicked off Project Runway
It was a really interesting Project Runway tonight, where we got a glimpse into the family and personal lives of the designers. The designers were given the challenge to create an outfit for the everyday woman – one of their mothers or sisters. We found out that Kayne used to be fat, that Jeffrey is a recovering alcoholic and drug addict, and that Laura is pregnant with her sixth child.
This project was rather challenging for some of the designers. They were used to designing for perfectly sized models, not real women with real curves and real body sizes. Some of the designers were out of their element, while others really tried to make an outfit that would fit both the personality of the mom or sister as well as the personality of the designer.
Last week’s show focused a lot of time on Laura and tonight a lot of time was focused on Jeffrey. I’m not sure what the producers and the directors are trying to do – are they trying to make us think that Jeffrey is a complete jerk, or are they trying to make us feel badly for Jeffrey. I think anyone who has overcome drug and alcohol dependence is a very strong person, but tonight we did see that he had a soft, emotional side when he spoke of Robert.
Speaking of Robert – tonight was the final straw for him and he was kicked off the show. He had been in the bottom two or three for the past few weeks, mainly because his designs were boring. Tonight he had Vincent’s sister as his model and she was a real sized woman. Robert had a problem designing for her. Maybe all the years of making clothes for Barbie have rendered him unable to design clothes for real people.
I’m interested to see where the show goes in terms of focusing on certain designers. We’ve seen a lot of time devoted this season to Angela, Laura and now Jeffrey. I just wonder what that means.
