Shandi Finnessey eliminated tonight on Dancing with the Stars
I have a major problem with this results show format. First, do we really need a whole hour to find out who was eliminated? The entire show was overfilled with performances, interviews of the audience, and “confessional” pieces but when Shandi is interviewed after finding out she has been eliminated Tom Bergeron tells her they are almost out of time and she and Brian need to go and do their final dance. Does anyone else see a problem with this logic? The show is called Dancing With The Stars. The reason we tune in each and every week is to watch these celebrities become ballroom dancers, not to see R&B and Adult Contemporary artists perform and interviews of people that probably are famous but that I have no idea who they are nor do I care what they think about the performance the prior evening. Time needs to be focused on the eliminated celebrity, not everyone else.
OK, so about the show. Joey and Kym are picked as the judges’ favorite from last night and do an encore performance of their Star Wars tango. I still don’t get it, and I still hate the music. Why did the judges pick this performance? I would have rather seen Leeza and Tony or Ian and Cheryl perform again.
The first music performance is by Ciara – who I’ve never heard of – a somewhat popular R&B artist. She has a whole bunch of female dancers performing with her. They are not the pros on the show. Does anyone else but me have a problem with this? I want to see Edyta, Cheryl, Kym and the rest of the professionals perform, not a bunch of back up dancers. Not that they are bad because they are back up dancers, it’s the concept of having outside people perform that I disagree with. And what did this song have to do with ballroom dancing? What type of dance should have been performed to it, or was it a freestyle number?
Survivor is the next musical performer, and eight of the professionals do an awesome Paso Doble (choreographed by Cheryl Burke and Jonathan Roberts). When you see the professionals dancing with a professional partner you see just how good they are.
What is it with the stupid Jimmy Kimmel skits, or is it just another way for ABC to try and cross-promote their shows without having to spend any money on advertising? The producers could have cut out this skit and done a nice interview/tribute to the eliminated celebrity instead.
Josh Grobin performs last, and he is such an awesome performer. I really like him and I think that’s what made this time suck tactic work for me. Tony and Julianne did a really beautiful freestyle type dance to his music that took my breath away. She really is a great performer for being so young.
Did we really need the bit on psychics and numerologists predicting the show winners? And who is really going to be accurate, since they picked two different couples? Or will neither one be right?
In the end the bottom two celebrities were Leeza and Tony and Shandi and Brian. Shandi and Brian were eliminated and I kind of saw it coming. I don’t think she had the fan base that the others have. Next week the two dances being performed will be the waltz and the paso doble. I just love the paso doble so I can’t wait to see those performances.
Please, please ABC change the results show format back to 30 minutes. It’s more than enough time to have an encore performance, a performance by the professionals and to find out who is safe and who is being eliminated.
