Simone eliminated on the first show of Season 4 of Project Runway
I love and hate the first show of a new reality program season. I have been waiting very impatiently for the fourth season of Project Runway. However, there are so many new names and faces it’s hard to keep track of who is who and one hour is just not enough time to get to know everyone on the show.
Fifteen designers began the competition this year with an interesting challenge. After the requisite “meet and greet” in their new temporary homes they are told to go to Bryant Park to meet with Tim Gunn and Heidi Klum. It’s almost a symbolic way to do a first challenge, since the first challenge of the season as well as the final runway shows under the tents will both be located in Bryant Park.
Three tents are strategically placed across the park and Tim and Heidi tell the designers that they will have to use the tents as raw materials to create a garment that expresses who they are as a designer. At first they thought they would have to use the tents themselves until they realize the tents are filled with $50,000 worth of fabrics. When they are told to do so the designers sprint across the grass to reach the tents. All the designers, that is, except for Chris who kind of stumbles his way there. It’s a free for all as the designers use the ten minutes to grab as many pieces of fabric as they can to make their garments.
Even though we did not get to see too many behind the scenes type interviews with the designers I have come up with a few opinions:
- Elisa is a strange one. I’m not sure what planet she is from but it doesn’t seem to be planet Earth.
- Christian is very impressed with himself and his design abilities for being all of 21 years old.
- Chris seems like he could be a lot of fun at a party.
- Kevin has some sexual identity issues – otherwise why would he announce that he is straight?
The judges for the runway show were, as always, Michael Kors, Nina Garcia and Heidi. The guest judge this week was fashion designer Monique Lhuillier. The judges liked the designs of Christian, Rami and Victorya while they did not like the designs of Simone, Ricky or Elisa. I liked Rami’s design, but I also liked Chris’ design as well (who did not make the top three). I really did not care for the Burberry gone wrong design of Christian or that strange metallic thing on Victorya’s dress. Of course I am just a humble viewer, not at all a fashion expert as the judges so I guess they saw some things with their designs that I just did not see. I agreed with their bottom three except for Ricky’s design. I thought his babydoll dress was nice. I thought there were a few other designs that could have been in the bottom three that were equally as safe as Ricky’s design.
Rami won the design challenge and has immunity from elimination for next week’s show. The bottom two were Simone and Elisa with Simone being eliminated because of the poor construction and lack of a wow factor in her design. The judges said that even though Elisa’s dress was way too much it did show her great creativity. Again I thought that Elisa should have been sent home instead of Simone, even though I did not care for her design either.

Simone’s dress was terribly constructed, but then Elisa’s was a disaster as well. She was in a bad wreck and in a coma after that - wonder if that had any effect on her personality or if she’s always been an earth mother type. I love Chris - he’s so funny! And Christian - I can just tell, he is going to be bitchy

I like Rami as well - he seems to be pretty centered and doesn’t seem to be a diva or have any of the drama around him. Christian will be fun to watch though -and fun to see when Michael Kors or Nina Garcia takes him down a few notches.
