Six left on So You Think You Can Dance
The remaining six contestants performed tonight. Each performer did two performances with a partner and one on their own. I’ve come to the conclusion that I really prefer the partner routines to the solo performances. For the most part in the partner routines everyone tried to work as a team, not trying to outperform the other dancer. At least not intentionally – for example, I don’t think Benji ws trying to outperform Donyelle in the Broadway number, he just did. The solo performances to me were just flash over substance. And I guess I can’t blame the dancers – they only have a minute or so to get our attention and our votes.
The first three partner routines, while better in my opinion than the solo performances, did not do much for me at all. They weren’t bad they just weren’t spectacular. The judges seemed to really like the Smooth Waltz performed by Heidi and Travis, but I thought it was kind of boring.
The second three partner routines didn’t excite me that much either. Like I said before, they were more enjoyable to watch than the solo performances but still not what I would expect at this point. Maybe it’s nerves or too many routines to learn in the course of a few days, but I expected more from these final six dancers.
I think the ultimate question to determine the best performer / winner of the competion would be this – would you pay $50 or more to see him/her perform? Based on tonight’s performances I don’t think I would answer yes to any of these contestants. That does not mean they are bad performers. On the contrary, they have to be pretty good to have gotten this far. I’m just saying that no one tonight caused me to say “wow”.
Now I just hope I can remember to watch the results show tomorrow night!
