So You Think You Can Dance – Season 4 – LA Auditions
Tonight was the Los Angeles auditions of Season 4 of So You Think You Can Dance. The judges for this year are Nigel Lythgoe, Mary Murphy and Mia Michaels. This was the first season where I have personally watched the show and I can absolutely understand why this show is such a hit. The dancers who get a “pass” are given a ticket for the next round being held in “Sin City”, Las Vegas.
For me the highlight of the show was actually the last person to perform. Robert Muraine a “Popping” dancer from Los Angeles, California had moves that I never thought was possible for a man. At the end of the performance he gave Nigel a big hug and practically left him speechless. In good spirits Nigel attempted to “pop” with Robert.
We got to see a couple of folks who just keep trying and trying to get past the first round. David “Sex” Soller from Smithtown NY made his third appearance on the show. He must be the joke factor because my cat has better moves than him. We also got to see the return of the “Gold Inferno” from Los Angeles CA. What’s up with the mask? Looked more like a stunt than a try out for the show.
One of my biggest favorites was Kherington Payne from Placentia, CA. Along with some great dancing she has a look of star qualities. I said that to my wife when she first started and every one of the judges said the same thing after her performance. Keep your eye on Ricky Sun and Asuka Kondoh from Ivrine CA. They had great chemistry for a dance couple. While they initially received a “not sure”, they ended up getting past the choreographers and will both be moving on to Las Vegas. I also believe that Stephen “Twitch” Boss from Montgomery, AL has the potential to move beyond Las Vegas. He made it as far a Las Vegas on Season 3 of SYTYCD. The judges thought he was much improved. He seems to be a fan of Nigel as he was quoted as saying “You better make it through or I will kick your ass”.
