So You Think You Can Dance: Atlanta Auditions

“So You Think You Can Dance” was in Atlanta this week. Billy Bell was told by Nigel he had great legs and technique, but a sway back. Nigel, Mary, and guest judge Lil C all said no to choreography and I was like “Aw” but they said yes to Vegas. They tricked me!

Nigel got on to Amber Jackson because she performed to no one. He loved her dancing, but told her the performance was *expletive.* Mary and Lil C were frustrated by her too. After she said she was willing to take a chance, all three voted for choreography. But others had lifeless performances as well.

Travis Denison kept the University of Georgia pumped up, but he did nothing for the judges. Nigel said it was fun, but not competitive. He did also note his resemblance to Adam Shankman, which cracked up Mary and Lil C. Everyone loved Jamal Jackson, so off to Vegas he goes. Victor Smalley will be joining him there.

Anthony and Antwain Hart from Season 4 were back. Nigel said they have gotten better and he was pretty sure they’d get through to Vegas, but wanted them to do choreography first. Antwain struggled. Anthony got a ticket to Vegas as did Amber, but Antwain didn’t get a ticket.

Day 2 saw the judges in a good mood. Matthew “Boogie Links” Pollard was trying to work the ladies in the crowd, but was hoping to impress the judges. He impressed them enough to go to choreography.

Jessica Jenson suffered from a sarcoma in the palm of her hand and she had to have her hand amputated. Nigel was impressed with how she used her arm. She got a “yes” to choreography.

Lil C told Jonathan Bryant he needed more control. Mary said he had some talent, but was funneling it the wrong way. He thought he was way better than the judges did and didn’t want to listen to their feedback. He kept smirking and looking away when Nigel was trying to talk to him. Then he broke down in tears. It was weird – he said he wanted to stay true to himself and not change. I loved when Nigel said all this was going to be cut out of the broadcast. I’d like to know what happened next, but we had an Amber alert that blocked the sound. From the looks of things, it looked like he was told to take a hike.

Last up was Thomas Hamilton. His mama was a drug addict, so his aunt adopted him. He wants out of the Georgia town because of all the drugs. He hated contemporary until he took a Mia Michaels class. Mary said he was so talented and gifted and Lil C pointed out how Mia woke up the dancer in him. He went to choreography. Boogie Links was told he wouldn’t be going any further as was Jessica. Thomas is getting out of his Georgia town, at least for a little while because he is going to Vegas.
