So You Think You Can Dance: NY Auditions

Tonight was the New York auditions and they brought in some great talent and some not so great talent. First, the good – Anya and Pasha, who practically had Nigel panting, were fantastic. Heather, who had had two hip surgeries, also impressed the judges. Jamal was the star of the night though. When he and E-Knock first auditioned, I thought E-Knock was the better of the two. When Jamal said he could do swing, Nigel asked him to work up a routine. Jamal looked dumbstruck, so I just knew he was going to blow it, but by the end of his routine, he had all three judges on their feet cheering him on. It was so cute – not sure how far he will get, but he did make it through the choreography round to Vegas. Nigel even told him “You sire, are a star.” Stanislav, last year’s hip shaking hottie, brought his sister Faina and Nigel said she was better than Stanislav. She is going to be stiff competition in Vegas! A teacher (Katie) and student (Ashley) both made it through as well. Hanna-Lee – good grief, the video of the floor collapsing was terrifying! – also made it through the choreography round.

Then, there were the bad. Dance teachers who themselves couldn’t dance, the “Jesus lost his crown” girl (what the *&/$# was that all about?), Jenna, who’s tattoo may have said dance, but her body didn’t. And what was up with Dancing Derrick? He said he danced 23 hours straight (must have been wearing one of those NASA diapers), but had to have oxygen after the two minute audition? And of course, what SYTYCD audition would be complete without…Sex. And Mamma Sex was there too, trying to plead his case for his dream of being a dancer. Seriously, aren’t his 15 minutes up already? I just hope he doesn’t try out for “America’s Got Talent!”
