So You Think You Can Dance: Rayven and Jamie Go Home
So You Think You Can Dance is such a fun show up to this point – when the top 20 dancers start going home. I always feel so sorry for the two that made it this far – through all the auditions – only to be the first ones kicked off the show. At this point, we’ve only seen the dancers dance one full night, so like I said in an earlier blog, I think it comes down to a personality contest more than anything.
The bottom three couples this week were Kourtni and Matt, Rayven and Jamie, and Jessica and Will. I was surprised to see Kourtni and Matt there – the judges love Kourtni! Each dancer had to “dance for their life.” Rayven wasn’t too impressive – she played it safe and Nigel got on to her for being on demi-pointe rather than full pointe. Nigel told Kourtni she brought a “magic quality to your performance,” so she got to stay. The judges told Jessica she was “not strong enough,” but decided to send home Rayven (the oldest dancer this season at 28)
Her partner Jamie tried to be more daring in his dance solo. I loved when Cat said, “You’re dancing like your life depends upon it.” Duh, isn’t that basically what they tell the bottom three pairs? The judges said they loved Jamie’s personality and Matt’s technique and in the end, they decided to keep Matt, sending Jamie (despite the fact that this West Coast Swinger was taught by Season 2 winner Benji and Season 3 finalist Lacy’s partner) home. Being a couple, that won’t split up any of the other couples, so I guess that is good.
