So You Think You Can Dance: Salt Lake City Auditions

So You Think You Can Dance” went to Salt Lake City this week for the next round of auditions. Nigel was back and Mia Michaels join he and Mary as a guest judge.

First up was Bryan Boyer who started out with this flying running move. He definitely had some slick moves, and while that thrills the judges, it doesn’t always mean he is what they are looking for. Nigel said it was one of the best hip hops they had seen that season. Everyone voted yes for choreography.

Tristy Mirci was in 25 car wrecks in three years. She called it a bad streak of luck, but her bad luck didn’t end as the judges passed on her. Nigel couldn’t believe she had been training for three years now. He said someone is taking her money and I believe it!

Hayley Cloud herniated a disk in her back doing acrobats, but decided to try out for the competition anyhow. Mary called her uninhibited and loved her confidence. Mary made her have part of the conversation in a handstand position because she said she could be like that for 5 to 10 minutes. Nigel liked that she referred to the fellow dancers as “competitors.” She got a ticket to Vegas.

Megan Kinney got a ticket to Vegas as did Genise Ruidiaz. Nigel was enjoying all the beautiful dancers, whether they made it through to Vegas or not. Burlesque performer Ariana “Satin LaRouge” Rowley was hoping to impress, but Mary looked…well, puzzled and hid Nigel’s eyes. Nigel was pleased and the crowd was completely silent until Nigel said “Can I see that again?” Then he wanted to know if Mia could choreography that! Mia was speechless (until she said it was “weak and trashy”) and Nigel called it “absolutely fantastic.” Mia voted for choreography, Mary voted against it, but good old Nigel put her through.

The judges loved Iveta Lukosiute, a Soviet refugee. She just looked like a professional dancer. Nigel used the word “vivacious” to describe her. Mary actually teared up! Mia called her “magical.” After the lovefest, Iveta got a ticket to Vegas.

At choreography, Bryan dropped out after only 15 minutes. He did say he was going to get some lessons and come back next year. Ariana should have quit, she was terrible at choreography.

Next up was what was billed as one of the strangest auditions ever and they weren’t kidding! Pascal Nayigiziki had Nigel waving his head in disgust immediately. It was…uh…very expressive, I guess. He tried to add some hip hop there at the end…even that wasn’t good. He tried though – can’t say he didn’t. Nigel likened it to bad food poisoning. He called himself a great investment, but the judges weren’t interested.

Married couple Ashleigh and Ryan Di Lello had the judges split. They loved Ryan, but felt Ashleigh was trying to do overdo the chemistry and it made it seem fake. They put them both through to choreography. Josh Murillo and Leigh Asay had only been dancing together for two weeks, but the judges were impressed. Poor Leigh lost a toenail and through pain, she was told by Nigel that if she could walk, she could come and get a ticket to Vegas. Fortunately, Josh carried her. He was sent through to choreography.

Josh didn’t make it in choreography, but Ryan and Ashleigh did, so off to Vegas they go!
