So You Think You Can Dance: The Final Auditions
The final auditions for SYTYCD were held in Milwaukee, but we also got to see other highlights too. Michael Kim has been training since season 2, when he made it to Vegas and it showed – he made it again this year. Katee and Natalie were roommates who were both sent through to Vegas as well. Janette and Romulo were good, but only Janette made it to Vegas.
The guest judges for Milwaukee were Tabitha and Napoleon. First, those going through to Vegas: Bianca Revels, a tapper that Nigel said was “superb,” Evan Kasprzak, who was a throwback to the 40s and 50s (loved him!), Kourtni Lind (did she really slam her head on the floor? I watched it like three times and couldn’t tell!), Susie Garcia (I was not really impressed with this high school teacher version of Shakira – too much hair shaking for me, but the judges liked her), Rebecca Hart, Cooper Zamarano (I too thought it was like watching Travis), Philip Courter, and Lizz Plott.
Of course, there was the funny and just bad. James Davis – a team of choreographers couldn’t help this poor “Footloose” wannabe. Victor Campos – it’s just a bad sign when a dancer comes out wearing a Zorro mask on his face. And, he didn’t even convey the “conflict between individuality and society’s pressures” very well! Travis France – a bit prissy. Tom Kozol – not a good dancer, but fun and the story about dancing while waiting to water his earless goats was worth the wait! Ashley Henry – they gave her a chance, but she just wasn’t good enough. But, she is going to take ballet – good for her! Brice – wonderful story about how he dances for the people in the retirement home. He may not have won a ticket to Vegas, but what a good guy! Yesenia – a friend of Philip’s, she made it to Vegas last year. Inspired, she went home and lost 50 pounds, but a bad knee kept her from doing her full performance this year. Raymond Love – boy, Nigel stopped him quickly, saying he wasn’t emotionally connected to his partner. But, the choreography of the piece was good!
One fun part of the night was the last bit – the mystery dancer that turned out to be Travis Wall in drag!
