So You Think You Can Dance: Top Six Perform
The final six “So You Think You Can Dance” contestants performed four times tonight – two couple routines, a solo routine, and a group routine. Sonya choreographed the group routine for the guys. It was a typical Sonya routine – quirky, different, and fun. Lil C loved seeing Brandon and Ade together and thought Evan held his own. Mary and Nigel loved the routine as well.
Ade and Jeanine got the Samba. I thought it was a sexy little number. Mary enjoyed the first 15 seconds, but the rest was not so good. Lil C said Ade was frolicking. Nigel thought Jeanine was fabulous, but Ade had to change his style a bit. For their second number, Ade and Jeanine got a hip hop routine with an eviction theme. Nigel mentioned how hard the girls had had it this season with the abortion routine, the chased by zombies routine – this one wasn’t really a great one either. The theme that is. The routine itself brought praises from the judges, with Lil C giving it the coveted “buck.”
Two of my favorites, Melissa and Evan, were paired to do a Broadway number with Tyce. This was a perfect routine for Evan and Melissa never disappoints me. Lil C didn’t feel like Evan shined as much as he expected. He gave them an A, but wanted an A+. Mary said the routine could have been called “Get me to the finale on time.” Nigel said Melissa has easily adapted to other styles of dance and thought Evan brought enough to the routine. Melissa and Evan’s second routine was the dreaded quickstep. Lil C said Evan danced bigger than he had seen him dance all season, but for Mary, the routine crumbled as it went on.
Kayla and Brandon danced a contemporary piece. Lil C thought it was intense and beyond amazing and Mary still had them on the Hot Tamale Train with first class tickets. Nigel hinted that there maybe could have been more chemistry between the two. Brandon got a standing ovation from the judges for his solo and Nigel said it was one of the best solos in the history of the show. The couple’s second dance was a disco number. Lil C said some nonsense about having to see the music with your ears and no darkness in the routine. I think that was a good thing. Mary threatened Brandon if he didn’t start having some self confidence because they knocked it out of the park. Nigel said it was easy to hype up the audience with screaming (referring to Mary), then got up and screamed and danced himself.
The final routine was the girl’s group dance. It was by Sonya too and she is just too wonderfully weird for words. The girls were super heroes and again Lil C went off on some rant about “the stage is a bowl” – whatever that means. He just cracks me up sometimes. But, he wanted more than amazing while Mary pointed out that amazing is amazing. Nigel loved the chemistry of the girls.
Based solely on his solo, I’d say Brandon was safe. But, it is hard to say who might be in danger at this point. We will just have to find out who leaves tonight.
