So You Think You Can Dance: Will and Comfort are Eliminated
This week on So You Think You Can Dance, there was the shocking elimination (Will) and the not so shocking elimination (Comfort). I forgot to mention in the last blog how I loved Will’s James Brown solo last night – even Nigel mentioned it tonight. Comfort – still not sure how she made it this far. She is good at hip-hop – no doubt, but I was surprised last night to learn that she had any type of formal training. It just does not translate into dances like the foxtrot. I was also surprised to see Courtney and Twitch in the bottom two. And why did they leave Courtney back there by herself, knowing that she was in the bottom 2? That seemed rather cold.
Nigel said Twitch and Will were the best dancers last night and even Mark seemed stunned when he was told he was safe. Poor Twitch turned and dropped to his knees upon hearing the news that he was in the bottom two. Cat had to help him to his feet. It is really sad this time of year – most of the dancers left are really, really good and you want to think that they have done enough to make it in the business somewhere, but it is hard to see any of them leave.

I agree, Will’s dancing is pure genius as any So You Think You Can Dance fan has come to appreciate and greatly value. Although it is true, he will undoubtedly go on to bigger and better opportunities, it is so sad to see America mess up so badly. Will brought such an excitement to the show which will now only be left with a lingering void..We will miss you Will!

I think that Will Didnt deserve to even be in the bottom two. That just goes to show that America doesn’t Know real dancing i think they Base things off of looks because if it was up to me Mark should have went home Last night and I am really dissapointed in the show. They’ve just lost my support. Will If they dont think you can Dance, I do. you will go on to do bigger and better things.

Will being eliminated is outrageous! Once again America can’t be trusted to vote for the best person. Why am I shocked after 8 years of “You Know Who”? I know Will is going to have a great career in dance! Good Luck Will!

I am getting so weary of Cat Neely pawing all the guys. She is the young female counterpart to a dirty old man. All that kissing and hugging and clutching is driving me nuts.

I was very shocked to see Will get eliminated. America definitely got it wrong last night. I know Will will go on to do bigger things because he is so, so talently. He was definitely my favorite of them all. I tuned in to see him every week. I was ready for Comfort to go…

I watched the results show when Will was voted off with a group of friends, many of them accomplished dancers. We are stunned and disappointed. American got this entirely wrong. With many great and fine dancers left in the contest, we all felt Will justifiably should win it all. He is perfection and genius to watch. His solos show many dance genres that he has mastered and the James Brown had the judges and all of us responding with a standing ovation. He was totally classy when this horrid reality hit home. I now have a lack luster interest in the show because I do not respect what happened. Mark is the least accomplished dancer and seems to have won over a popularity movement. This is not about popularity but THE MOST ACCOMPLISHED DANCER! We all wish Will the best and know he will achieve high accolades in the dance world again and again. I lonly wish I could continue to watch him until the end. Comfort was a good choice to be gone. Mark should be next. The judges, level of choreography and most dancers have been spectacular this season.

I was not shocked by the elimination of Will. He has been held up by the judges for far too long. The judges have showered him with praise the whole season and have overlooked many of his flaws in different genres. Yet he could not win over American public. I hope that teaches the judges a lesson. The American public will not be fooled by hype. Shame on them for trying to influence the results of the show in favor of Will and their friend, Debbie Allen. I am glad that the top six are truly the best, most charismatic, and entertaining dancers. I considered stopping watching the show because of the judges’ Will bias, but I just appreciate the talent of the dancers and choreographers too much to quit on the show.
July 25th, 2008 at 3:17 pm
I am horrified that Will was eliminated. I am just disgusted. This season I lived to see Will dance and I just can’t bear to watch an episode with a forgetable dancer on the show instead of Will. I won’t watch anymore episodes this season.
July 25th, 2008 at 3:18 pm
What a mistake! The mistakes started when Gev got voted off, did anyone who didn’t vote for him see his solos? What about Will’s solo? How can that be compared to Mark’s solos? I like Mark and all, but come on, his dancing is not half as seasoned as Will’s.
They better find a new way of voting dancers off, with people who know exactly what to look at when judging a dancer.
IT’S NOT A POPULARITY CONTEST, THESE TALENTED AMAZING DANCERS WORK REALLY HARD,
GET IT RIGHT!!!!
July 25th, 2008 at 3:47 pm
Snif!! Snif!! It was a shock yesterday seeing Will at the bottom two, I couldn t believe it…Every time he danced, I was mesmerized. We will miss you, but we know that your carreer has already taken a step further.
July 25th, 2008 at 3:50 pm
Actually, the show tries to make it pretty clear that we are voting for “America’s Favorite Dance” and not the “best” dancer. To a large extent, this is a popularity contest.
Anyone know what was writtne on Will’s shirt on the results show? It said “Cool” on the top and then had a list of ingredients.
July 25th, 2008 at 9:58 pm
I was so surprised when I learned that Will and Twitch were in the bottom two. I just could not believe it! I felt bad for both of them, but even more for Will. I just thought that at the beginning he had an excellent technique but he needed to show who he was. And more and more, that is exactly what he did. He is a serious and meticulous dancer who is able to personify Broadway, latin, modern dance from his soul. Anything he was asked to do, he did at 120 percent! His solo raised the bar for the rest of the dancers also. I was sure that he was going to win, and I think that America got it wrong this time….
July 25th, 2008 at 10:54 pm
Will is perfection; I’ve never seen anything like him. I could watch Katie and him dance all day long! I predicted that they would be the top two, and then they would be tied, so the show would declare them both the winners! Nigel was right; America assumed he was a shoe-in so they didn’t bother to vote - SO TAKE THAT WARNING AND VOTE NEXT WEEK!!!
July 25th, 2008 at 11:43 pm
I am shocked just as everyone else is. Grreat.. now I have completely lost interest in the rest of the show. He was enormously talented…. and it does not feel right that he is not in the final 2.
July 26th, 2008 at 9:37 am
I believe that Will was in the bottom two because everybody, including me, assumed he would be safe and didn’t need the votes. Sorry, Will. I voted for another dancer I wanted to see persevere for another week or so. He is a magnificent dancer and should still be in the competition. If the balloting allowed voters to RANK the competitors, the outcomes would be different.
Also: even though some of you say America got it wrong, remember that when it was up to the judges in the earlier part of the competition, they got it wrong some of the time, too. Jessica has a very appealing personality and worked hard, but she did not match some of the eliminated dancers in ability. And it is subjective after all, isn’t it?
The caliber of the dancing is outstanding, and even those dancers who get eliminated before the final round will not be forgotten. Look at Dmitri, for one! So producers, how about a “where are they now” segment? I would love to see Sabra again. And I never saw the first season. What are the finalists from that season up to?
July 26th, 2008 at 2:00 pm
devastating to say the least …. people probably thought Will didn’t need the votes since he is by far the best dancer this year and perhaps ever. i had looked forward to seeing it come down to Will and Katee ….. of course with Will winning. wishing him all the best for an extraordinary career.
July 26th, 2008 at 2:41 pm
Will should have won. But, I think what happened is that the public just assumed he would win, so they didn’t think it was important to vote for him. I still can’t believe how Mark wasn’t in the bottom 2. People, you need to vote for the person you want to win. Don’t assume that the rest of the country is voting for the best one.
July 26th, 2008 at 4:29 pm
I also was totally shocked when Will was put into the bottom two and eliminated. His dancing is pure perfection and he was really starting to let his personality shine through. My husband made the point that Will’s solo was the only one he wanted to watch more of. As for the votes, I voted for everyone except Mark and Comfort. I just felt like they weren’t as accomplished as the other remaining dancers. It will be a great loss to watch the show without Will. The remaining eliminations are going to be difficult as the dancers really are incredible this season. Still bummed about Will. . .
However, I know he has a very bright future in dancing ahead of him.
July 26th, 2008 at 4:56 pm
Will should not have gotten voted off! America is going overboard!
I wish everything lied in the hands of the judges and America has as little input as possible since they obviously don’t know talent when they see it. They were going right about everything untill now. We will definetly miss him on the show. He is pure ‘genius’.
Good luck to the rest of the contestants.
July 26th, 2008 at 7:20 pm
I have two words for you Will: Jennifer Hudson.
July 26th, 2008 at 7:59 pm
I’m as shocked as anyone to see Will get eliminated. I agree with Amy’s post - we assume that he’s so good that we don’t have to vote for him. As a result, the underdogs get the votes because we figure someone else will vote for Will. This is what happens when people *don’t* vote.
Vote for your favorites - or be disappointed when they go home.
Will should have won the competition. These final shows are going to be interesting!
July 26th, 2008 at 10:40 pm
Will being voted off was a huge shock to me! I had all my money on him or Chelsea (Katie would have been a close second). He nailed every single dance given to him, he was always in full character, and gave every dance 100%. He was hands down the best male dancer on the show! I think the only reason he got voted off is because we could not see enough of his personality off of the dance floor…but this was about dancing and playing the part of the dance….and he did just that. I’m going to finish watching the season but am so disappointed in the show and in America. Mark is good but he is probably there because the entire state of Hawaii is voting for him out of loyalty. I think Joshua is a cutie and that is part of the reason he is still there, but he is a good dancer.
At this point, the most talented dancers left on the show is Chelsea and Katie. It will be a very close fight….unless America fails to vote for best dance as opposed to best personality!
July 27th, 2008 at 5:43 am
My Will to watch the show is gone. Producers, take note: as in past seasons, the judges should be the ones to make the final decisions. Mary and Nigel would have never let Will or Twitch go at this point in the game. Allowing call-in votes to be the deciding factor has hurt the show. Why the change in format?
July 27th, 2008 at 5:09 pm
I believe, as I’m sure many others did, that Will was clearly the best dancer on the show, and that people didn’t vote for him because they assumed he would win. I did! I didn’t vote. He and Danny Tidwell are the most beautiful dancers I’ve ever seen. I ASSUMED HE WOULD WIN. People just voted to keep some other great dancers in that they liked and knew wouldn’t make it to the top. IT BACKFIRED. God forgive us. I am so sad. I miss him so much. The talent this year is absolutely incredible. They all have great gifts. BUT I LONG FOR WILL. HE DESERVED TO WIN.
July 27th, 2008 at 11:47 pm
I was NOT shocked by the elimination of Will. He keeps taking his shirt off [cheap] and.. “He has been held up by the judges for far too long. I considered stopping watching the show because of the judges’ Will bias, but I just appreciate the talent of the dancers and choreographers too much to quit on the show.”
July 28th, 2008 at 1:15 am
@ Susan - I don’t think Will’s “clearly the best…” I think he’s just “one of the best”. Katee and Courtney are really good. But Will was definitely the best male dancer.
It’s unfortunate that he had to leave the show. He looked like he was in shock when he heard he was in the bottom, and I thought it was a joke at first.
But Will leaving gives the other weaker dancers a huge advantage because they’re still in the competition. Surely they’re not that sad about that.
July 28th, 2008 at 3:25 am
Will did NOT deserve to leave..See that’s why Canadians should get the right to vote..He was by far the best male dancer and had such a warm personality. I expected him to go really far in the competition and even winning it. America did get it wrong this time. Well I hope you’ve learned your lesson this time cause we can’t risk another talented dancer being voted off the stage. At least Comfort left, it was about time.
July 28th, 2008 at 9:44 am
@ me-oh-my-oh I have a background in the arts, and although not prominently in dance, I think he was the best. He certainly appeared to be the most fit. If dancing shirtless enhances the beauty, power, performance and lines of the dance, I think it’s great. I don’t think Katee or Courtney are best. Joshua is awesome. Mark is great. The dancers are most certainly still glad to be in the competition. It’s us (the public) who miss Will the most.
July 28th, 2008 at 2:02 pm
Well, I can only echo what everyone else has said. I am so, so disappointed that I will not be seeing Will on for the rest of this show. I keep wondering if Will lost votes because he was so obviously fantastic that people assumed he didn’t need their votes. His versatility, skill and character are magnetic. And that physique doesn’t hurt, of course. I adore Mark, Twitch and Joshua, and would have been sad to see any of them gone. But Will leaving now is just a crime.
July 29th, 2008 at 6:11 pm
I was on vacation and missed the live show but had it taped. I was stunned to find out that Will was eliminated. I’m done with the show; without Will I’ve lost interest.
July 30th, 2008 at 7:27 pm
Sorry everybody, but i am really glad Will is gone. As it has been mentioned, the competition is trying to find America’s FAVORITE dancer, and regardless Will being arguably the best dancer in the show, he was rather cocky. In addition, the judges bias was irritating, given that even though he was good, there were definitely flaws from him that were overlooked.
He is a good case of someone that is talented, but not necessarily charismatic or likable for the general viewer.
And to finish, the only way to describe the James Brown solo is: self-indulgent.
July 30th, 2008 at 8:57 pm
Why is it that in any competition the top4 some messes up THE VOTE. I THINK IT WAS RIGGED. Anyway Twitch is gonna win or Katie. Mybe Katie
July 31st, 2008 at 5:48 pm
So here it goes. I am annoyed that Will left. But Joshua gets to truly get the attention he should get. The kind of attnetion Gev should have gotten before he was voted off. Joshua truly proved himself last night and with Katie he cannot go wrong. But I was also floored by Courtney’s solo!
July 31st, 2008 at 5:52 pm
and by the way, the next person that say’s anything about will’s personality go back and look at his performances. He was always in character and if that doesn’t do anything. His audition was all about the personality. Will’s personality was very calm, and while he wasn’t out there, it defiantly wasn’t hidden.
August 1st, 2008 at 7:39 am
I agree with you 2cents! He did have a beautiful calm personality… and plenty of personality, if you ask me. Will received praise because he deserved it. I think it’s pathetic for lesser talents (cry babies) and those WHO DON’T WORK AS HARD, to demand the same adulation. Grow up you guys!
August 9th, 2008 at 4:20 am
This was the equivalent to Chris Daughtry being voted off American Idol. Why do people still think that they don’t have to vote for the best, because someone else surely will…? Do that in the upcoming elections and we’ll be stuck with John McCain for president, for God’s sake!
Don’t ever count on others to do the work for you, and vote for the most deserving!
Will will survive. He’s had the platform to show off his talent, and has the connections to go forward with a career most can only dream of.
I see beautiful things in his future, and can only hope to see him live one day!
January 22nd, 2009 at 8:29 am
i still can’t believe that will has left the competition so early. he is my favorite dancer in this season. what did american think when they were voting? did will deserve it? when will left, i stopped seeing the rest shows.
