Some random thoughts on the show Jon and Kate plus 8

I love to go to Yahoo!Answers in the reality television section to see what people are talking about.  I have my list of shows that I watch and I like to see what other fans are asking and commenting about the shows.  Last night I was on the site and saw a question about the Gosselin family from Jon and Kate Plus 8.  The question was something like do you believe all the rumors about the family.

Now I haven’t heard any of the rumors so I was curious.  What could people be saying about them, and who are these people who are saying things?  I’m not going to use this site to perpetuate any rumors, or to share some of the things I’ve read regarding these so called rumors.  If you are curious to read what’s out there then I suggest you go to Google and start a search.  My purpose in this post isn’t to talk about them.

Here’s what I do want to talk about.  The show Jon and Kate Plus 8 in general, and Kate Gosselin in particular generate a lot of talk.  From what I could tell you either love them or hate them.  What surprised me so much is the depth of emotions that are put into what I read.  The people who love this show and this family are very committed to them.  The people who don’t find favor with the show or Kate are very passionate about it as well.

I find it amazing that a show that is about a family could generate such response from the public, both positive and negative.  For the positive reactions, that’s great.  For the negative ones here’s what I have to say.  There’s a quote that says “There is no such thing as bad publicity.”  I guess the bottom line is that people are watching the show.  And isn’t that the main purpose of any television show – to get viewers?  I read on Wikipedia that 2.5 million people tune in each week to view the show – one of the most watched reality television programs on the air now.  So I think it is safe to say the show has achieved the goal of any program.  Yes there are more “touchy feely goals” like showing a day in the life, inspiring other families, parenting advice, or whatever, but I’m pretty sure the executives at TLC are loving the fact that millions of people tune in each week to see the Gosselin family on Jon and Kate Plus 8.

Either the National Enquirer or Star Magazine said that week that Jon and Kate are not as strapped for cash as the show portrays them. The story even said they had a nanny and personal chef. It also went on to say how the family got a bunch of free offers when the babies were born and I think it mentioned Kate got money from her aunt or something like that.

If they didn’t do this show, they would be on welfare and they KNOW it. The trips they’ve been on really kill me…..Disney, Hawaii, and wherever else people with half the kids or less than them have never been and might never get to. Oh yes, they have money….lots of it. Don’t be fooled for a minute to think that this is a struggling family. When TLC, family and friends….even complete strangers are giving you money and other freebies, it must be sweet. Jon got a hair transplant for free! WTF?? There’s lots of people out there that only wish they could afford to do that. The people that religiously watch this show do so because of the “cute” factor. I bet they never think about those familes out there with as little as one or two children that don’t have the means to do things and go places these people do. Where’s THEIR handouts? Hell, I’ll take 12 kids if we can get the kind of special treatment the Gosselins are getting.

But you’ll agree this family causes a reaction in people, be it very, very positive or very, very critical and negative. To me that is what makes this show so very interesting - it polarizes the people who watch it.

i so dissagree with KAPTIN KAYOSS the family does get a lot of free stuff from people they dont even know companies and such but if you were put in that situatuion young just married just had twins then you find out you’re having 7 (6 because 1 never developed) then i personally would take all that is giving plus i think those trips are not just to show how much money they have it is for speaking engagements and to renew their vows hawaii and north carolina is to look at properties so thats why they take trips duh. maybe they do have a nanny and personall chef get over it 90210 cast members have nannies and personal chefs are you complaining about them didnt think so.
