Steve Guttenberg is eliminated from Dancing With The Stars
I was interested more than usual in tonight’s elimination for Dancing With The Stars, mainly because the bottom two couples were not announced last week. I didn’t realize it at the time – I just assumed the two couples at the end were in the bottom two. Not so. This time no one knows who was the other bottom getting vote getter so they have got to be nervous.
After a recap of the confessional interviews, the judges announced their encore performance. They said they wanted to see the dance they only got a glimpse of in the training videos – the man on man Tango (or Mango) of Jonathan Roberts and Steve Guttenberg. Steve’s partner (and Jonathan’s wife) Anna was ill last week so Jonathan stepped in to help train Steve. The performance was hysterical, if not a bit disturbing. Steve was trying so hard not to laugh. At the end they did all this manly high five-ing and chest bumping that was equally as funny. An April Fool’s joke or not? Who knows.
Right away we go to the first announcement of couples who are safe. Kristi and Mark and Adam and Julianne are moving on to compete next week.
Up next was a performance by musical guest Kylie Minogue. I’m going to renew a complaint I’ve had in the past seasons when the musical guest brings on their own dancers and don’t utilize the professional ballroom dancers.
After the segment on what the audience thought of the performances last night we find out two more couples who are safe. Priscilla and Louis and Marissa and Tony. Samantha announced that Marissa was safe and she exclaimed “yes” before saying their names. I didn’t think the hosts were supposed to show any favoritism but it’s so hard not to like Marissa. I don’t blame Samantha one bit if she was excited for her and allowed it to show.
Next up is a bit on how the stars relax and relive stress. My question is this: was this just an April Fool’s joke or does Kristi really have a future as a hot dog eating champion?
The Macy’s Stars of Dance performance this week was by the Alvin Ailey Dance Theater performing a bit from their production Revelations. It was nice.
Kylie Minogue performed again, this time the song “Can’t Get You Out of My Mind” with Julianne and Mark dancing to it. Julianne and Mark were just amazing. She is such a good dancer, and so is he. They didn’t mention who choreographed the routine. I would be interested to find out.
Up next: a piece on the compatibility of the couples. Dr. Pepper Schwartz, author of the book “Finding Your Perfect Match” gave a compatibility test to the celebs and professional dancers. Based on the results of this test only she said that Kristi and Mark are perfect for one another and the best matched couple on the show this season.
Elimination time: we find out that Jason and Edyta and Marlee and Fabian are safe and moving on to compete next week.
Four couples are left after commercial break. Right now Tom Bergeron announces that they aren’t going to tell us this week who is in the bottom two yet again. Come on, you couldn’t say that at the top of the show? I should have guessed that.
The two couples who are safe: Cristian and Cheryl and Shannon and Derek.
The last two couples standing are Steve and Anna and Mario and Karina. The celebrity going home in week 3 of Dancing With The Stars: Steve Guttenberg. I’m shocked. I thought for sure he would have fan support.
