Stuck in Mozambique, Teri and Ian Eliminated
The race started with Uchenna and Joyce marked for elimination. They had to finish in first or suffer a 30-minute penalty. As it turns out, they didn’t finish first, but the 30 minutes didn’t hurt them.
Charla and Mirna made a smart move early on. After Teri and Ian had waited all night at the ticket office, everyone was told there were no seats on the next flight to Dar es Salaam. The cousins found a flight that took them to Johannesburg, however, the connecting flight to Dar es Salaam was full. They decided to chance it and it turned out well for them. While everyone else went upstairs to get on standby, Teri and Ian and Team Guido remained downstairs – bad mistake. Everyone else got on the next flight – well, everyone but Eric and Danielle who were pulled off because of a mistake. So those three teams were left waiting at the airport until the next day.
Charla and Mirna got to the ferry first, but had to wait until the next day because of bad weather. This allowed Oswald and Danny, Uchenna and Joyce, and Dustin and Kandace to catch up with them. In Johannesburg, Eric and Danielle, who had gone upstairs with the rest of the teams to put their names on standby, found out they would be the only team allowed to leave on the early flight. Teri and Ian and Team Guido finally got to leave at noon.
The Detour was Solve It or Schlep It. Solve It involved solving a puzzle while Schlep It involved loading two 50 pound logs and delivering them. Both Charla and Mirna and Danny and Oswald chose the puzzle, but by keeping calm, Danny and Oswald took over first place. However, they stopped to get fruit on the way to Kikumgwi and allowed the cousins to take over first place again.
The Roadblock was to learn to use a traditional wooden weapon called the Rungu. They had to throw it 65 feet and hit a target. Mirna finished before Danny and the cousins were the first to arrive at the Pit Stop at Old Fort. Danny and Oswald finished second, Uchenna and Joyce finished third – because they chose the puzzle over the logs. Because Dustin and Kandace chose the logs, they finished fourth. Eric and Danielle came in fifth. The race for second to last place was between Team Guido and Teri and Ian. Because Team Guido realized the puzzle had to sides and Teri and Ian didn’t, it gave them an advantage and they finished sixth. The married couple, Teri and Ian, were eliminated.
