Surprise Surprise

Well, my favorite Betty was dismissed last week and I was still a bit shocked by Michael (deservedly) winning both the Quickfire and Elimination Challenges.  This week, there were only six chefs left, with Elia being the lone female.  What was up with Marcel’s rap?  Snoop Dogg, he is not…more like K-Fed!  He just seems to get more and more annoying each week.

The Quickfire Challenge was to create a gourmet snack using Kraft products such as barbecue sauce and mayonnaise.  Apparently, Sam has had a long running love affair with mayo, and he and Marcel were chosen as the winners.  As winners, they both got to chose their own teams for the Elimination Challenge.

The Elimination Challenge was to take an empty restaurant and go from concept to reality.  Marcel chose Elia (of course) and Cliff. Why Cliff, I don’t know because WE all know Cliff hates Marcel.  Sam chose Ilan and got Michael by default.  Poor Michael, he should have had more drugs this week.  While he worked wonders last week, this week, he was pretty much just the pace car of the kitchen.  He shopped, but didn’t spend all his money.  The team decided against serving wine in their Italian restaurant because they didn’t have the money.  Bad decision.  Cliff, Elia, and Marcel decided to serve Mediterranean food, then decide that no, a diner concept would be better.  Bad decision.  Both restaurants basically sucked.  The judges were not impressed with Marcel’s undercooked chicken, Elia’s burger wasn’t the best ever, and frankly the dessert looked like slop on a Oreo.  But at least the diner served beer.  Everyone on the Italian side wanted wine, but there was none to be had.  The judges liked the meatball appetizer, but didn’t really care for the pasta or pork.  And the dessert – watermelon and cheese – ew!

What it came down to was there was NO winner in tonight’s challenge.  Most everyone got bashed by the judges but in the end, it was Michael who went from first to worst and he was eliminated.  Which, I was kind of fine with.  Other than last week, when he really, really shined, Michael has been nothing but dead weight the whole season.
