Survivor Fans vs. Favorites: Joel is Eliminated

I was on vacation and just now got to watch the last episode, but I was surprised that Alpha Dog Joel was eliminated. Well, maybe not really. He did have a bad attitude – perhaps the right one for true survival, but the wrong one for this show.

Big news this week was the dissolving of the original teams and the picking of new teams. Ozzy drew a rock to become the Malakal captain while Natalie was the lucky winner of the Airai captain title. Each person chosen had to choose someone from the opposite team. For Malakal, it was Ozzy, Joel, Amanda, Cirie, Ami, Erik, Tracy, and Chet (by default – he was the last one). For Airai, it was Natalie, James, Jonathan, Parvati, Eliza, Alexis, Jason, and Kathy. Before the tribe switch, Ozzy told Amanda, James, and Parvati that he found the hidden immunity idol.

I think what really hurt Joel this week was his callous treatment of Chet during the reward challenge. Team members were harnessed together in pairs with, of course, Joel and Chet being paired together. Joel dragged Chet around the course like a rag doll and the others took note of that.

Malakal lost the immunity challenge, so someone had to go. It seemed like it might be Chet, with Erik and Joel deciding he had to go, but Cirie worked her magic again, aligning with Tracy and Chet, then convincing Amanda and Ozzy that Joel was a dangerous threat. Joel seemed a bit surprised he was voted out, Erik seemed stunned and is it just me or is Cirie and Tracy the two really running the show lately?
