Tabatha and Tyson eliminated from Shear Genius - a really big surprise

What a shocker tonight!  I had Tyson and Tabatha picked as being the two contestants who would be competing for the big prize.  I never thought that they would be eliminated so soon in the competition.  I guess it does really matter who you pick to work with – even though Tabatha was a great stylist perhaps Tyson should have picked a contestant with whom he had a better relationship.  That might have made for success for him.

The night starts with the contestants being told they were going to team up for a mall challenge.  They had two hours to convince mall patrons to get their hair done.  It was up to each team to set the prices, and the team that made the most money would win.  As winner of the last elimination challenge Tyson had first pick of a teammate and would be the one assigning the other teams.  He put together Ben and Dr. Boogie as one team and Anthony and Daisy as the other team.

Ben and Boogie had a bargain basement mentality.  They wanted to get people to go to them based on price alone.  Tyson and Tabatha were charging pretty hefty figures (in my opinion, but then again I pay just about $30 for a haircut) and were unwilling to undercharge themselves.  Anthony and Daisy kind of settled in the middle, having prices around the $30 mark but willing to negotiate on price.  In the end Tabatha and Tyson were the winning team while Ben and Boogie came in last.

While in the loft that night the contestants have a wedding cake delivered to them with a note that indicated the next challenge would be about wedding hair and that the person they were teamed with in the shortcut challenge would be their partner in the elimination challenge.  Tabatha and Dr. Boogie were pretty unhappy about their teammates and let it be known that they were.  As winners of the shortcut challenge Tyson and Tabatha had first choice of clients and picked the order in which the other teams would select clients.  The clients consisted of the bride, mother of the bride, and maid of honor and the contestants had to create wedding styles for them that were cohesive and flattering to the dresses that were selected.

Anthony and Daisy worked really well together, while the other two teams were not as smooth.  Tyson and Tabatha were obvious in their dislike for each other, while Boogie treated Ben as nothing more than a shampoo girl in a salon.  Boogie went as far as to call Ben “his bitch” while in his confessional.

The judges loved the styles put forth by Anthony and Daisy.  Boogie and Ben’s styles were not so good and the judges thought that the up do on the maid of honor was more attractive than the bride’s style.  Tabatha and Tyson had no continuity in their styling, and the styles were not all that attractive in the judge’s opinion.  In the end it was probably the one really good hairstyle put forth by Ben and Boogie that saved them from elimination.

Daisy and Anthony had kind of been under the radar so far in the competition.  Maybe that’s the way to go, because after tonight’s show I definitely think they are the stylists to beat.
