Taking the Stage on MTV – a sneak peak at the cast
What the television show Fame was to me (a child of the 80’s) the show Taking the Stage might be to the high school students of today. The only difference is that this show is a reality program.
Taking the Stage is a new reality program set to air on MTV. The show premiers on Thursday, March 19th at 10:00 pm ET/PT. It takes place at the School for Creative and Performing Arts (SCPA) in Cincinnati and features five main characters:
Jasmine. She’s a talented and driven ballerina, she is the envy of many of the other students. We get to watch her rehearse for school productions of “The Nutcracker” and “Cats” while preparing to audition for Julliard.
Tyler. Tyler is new in school, and is a talented hip-hop dancer. Since he’s the new kid he has something to prove to the other students at SCPA who’ve been there for years. His little brother Chris is also a student at SCPA.
Mia. An ambitious singer/songwriter, Mia has set a goal for herself to have a recording contract by the time she is 18. She also loves to perform any time she can.
Shaakira. A senior at SCPA, she is a skilled ballerina and hip-hop dancer with a passion for acting. She sees a dance scholarship to college as her ticket out of Cincinnati.
Malik. Malik dreams of being a Broadway some day. He’s a standout student, dancer, choreographer and leader. He’s the founder of a hip-hop dance group called The Definition, an extracurricular activity that features his friends Jasmine and Shaakira.
Viewers of Taking the Stage will also get to meet some of the other students at SCPA, including JJ, a senior and one of Tyler’s closest friends; Aaron, a senior who loves the ladies and is a close friend of Mia; Matthew, a junior who hopes to be a music mogul one day; Jesse, a musician who is friends with Mia and Aaron; and Aubrie, a close friend of Mia who hopes to make it as a comedic actor and perform on “Saturday Night Live” one day.
The Taking the Stage premiers on MTV on Thursday, March 19th.

It is a fun show…but not reality. I go to the school, and it is funny how when it was cast the cast members were stying in hotels, and I were not enrolled until they were cast…then they moved to our city. Or they are staying in a hotel. It is fun to watch. Not real though…sorry
