Taylor wins American Idol 2006
This is it – the moment we have all been waiting for. Well, we had to wait another hour and 50 minutes, but what a fun wait it was! We saw some greats sing with the top six contestants – Al Jarreau, Dionne Warrick, and Meatloaf. For some reason, they teamed Kellie to do what I can only guess was supposed to be a comedy routine with Wolfgang Puck. Laurel and Hardy they were not. Chris performed with Live, but for the life of me, I could not tell him from the lead singer. And, neither could Ryan. Mary J. Blige – I love her voice, but she overpowered Elliott to the point where I could not hear him anymore. What was up with Toni Braxton? Was she drugged? I could not understand half the words she was singing. And when did her voice get so low?
The Golden Idol Awards were hilarious. Just the look on Paula’s face when the Crazy David guy ran at them during auditions – priceless! Then Clay Aitken came out. I thought it was Garth Brook’s alter ego Chris Gaines at first, then I thought maybe Edward Furlong had stumbled on stage, but no, it was Clay. Unrecognizable to me, but it was Clay. Burt Bacharach came out to play piano while the top 12 contestants sang some of his greatest hits. Was there a song in the 70s that this man DID NOT write?
Ryan teased us towards the end of the show that the results were coming, then out comes – OH MY GOD – IT’S PRINCE! I was more shocked then when Chris left the show. Prince – what a true American Idol he is!
Almost put a damper on the big moment – the announcement of the winner. Katharine and Taylor came out singing “Time Of My Life.” Apparently, no one puts Katharine in a corner…except Taylor that is because he is the new American Idol!
Well, now that that is over, I am off to ponder why David Hasselhoff was crying in the audience at the end.

I was correct. The 2006 American Idol is ….. Taylor Hicks. It was a record setting vote this year, with over 60 million people voting for either Taylor or Katharine. Both singers were fantastic yesterday, but I gave the slight advantage to Taylor, as did Simon Cowell and the rest of the judges. America agreed with the judges, voting for Taylor Hicks. Now, I have a feeling that both Katharine and Taylor will have successful careers in the music industry, Taylor is just guaranteed a recording contract because of his victory. Well, its all over for this year, we will have to wait and see who will take the crown in 2007.
