Team TTOW on the ropes
Tonight’s episode (episode 9 of Amazing Race 9) begins with BJ and Tyler without money or possessions. They have the right attitude, seeing the lack of possessions as a blessing to make them lighter and faster and helping them focus on the task at hand – completing the next leg without finishing last.
We know the teams are headed to Australia tonight, so there is a good chance all of the teams will again be tied and on the same flight. An even start will certainly help the hippies. However, when they came in last at Jabreen Castle and were notified it was a non-elimination round, Phil mentioned it was the first of ‘several’ non-elimination rounds for this season. There aren’t too many legs left, so just about every other episode will need to be another non-elimination round if the ‘several’ term is correct.
So what does TTOW mean? Search the Internet and you’ll get all kinds of hits – but something tells me it’s safe to assume it’s a phrase for only the hippies right now. Some of my favorite guesses by other fans include; ‘Take That Oprah Winfrey’, ‘Two Testicles One Weiner’, and ‘Two Tools On Weed’. Should they win the race, or at least compete until the end, I’m willing to bet you’ll see fellow hippies around the globe sporting TTOW hats and t-shirts. Commercial marketing to hippies is a bit ironic – but nothing about what sells on television these days can surprise me.
Whether the teams tie-up tonight or not, it’s good to see some mix-up of the standings. Fran and Barry are finally in first place and Eric and Jeremy are next to last. MoJo is in second followed by Ray and Yolanda. Getting around Australia shouldn’t be too hard as everyone speaks English, so maybe it’ll finally come down to some decent challenges to separate the teams. In an earlier season of Amazing Race, challenges in Australia included performing an ocean-water lifeguard rescue, rappelling face-first down a 20 story building, and diving amongst sharks in an aquarium.
Other than the obvious disadvantage the hippies face, I’m going to say Ray and Yolanda will likely come in last tonight. Whomever comes in last may get blessed with another non-elimination round.

The Amazing Race 3/14 Recap – TTOW, And Other Hard To Prounounce Words
The Hippies jump in their hippie mobile and start out the day with their typical fun. Find their way to the zipline, scare some of the other teams while they wait for the zipline to open, and jump on the hoods of some of the other cars—generally they clowned around more than Jon and Al from season 4. Their secret, made up word for everything exciting is “TTOW”, pronounced Teh-tOW for those of you that are hooked on phonics like I am. It’s so special to them that they feature it on their shirts as part of their matching Super Hippie outfits! They zip quickly, get themselves to Russia, and Tyler decides to take the plunge. TTOW! Their taxi driver gets them to the cathedral quickly, and upon finding the clue, both boys take a minute to admire the sheer beauty of the place that they are in. Ornate is an understatement. Dude, I wish we had a joint! TTOW! They head for the “Scrub” detour, but their taxi driver has no clue where the trolley park is. They end up in some residential neighborhood in Moscow, and eventually just abandon the cab to try and find the trolley’s on foot. Eventually they give up, and head back over to the “Scour” detour to open nesting dolls. Tyler pulls a rabbit out of a hat to find their clue (TTOW!!) and bound off to meet Phil in Red Square. They arrive…

Those shirts were introduced on the 3/14 episode when they finished the zipline challenge. They said it’s their power word and means “circle of the universe”. They did pronounce it Ta-tow (rhymes with wow!).
