“Testosterone Tuesday” on Dancing With The Stars
It was just the beginning of the show and I was already annoyed at ABC and their scheduling of the season premier of Dancing With The Stars. Why, oh why, are we subjected to these bloated shows? The first dance performed by a male celebrity did not start until 8:18 p.m., which in my opinion is unacceptable. We were forced to watch the requisite recap of the performances of last evening. Been there, done that, I don’t need to see it again. We got to see some of the confessional interviews from the women, which we will be watching yet again during the hour long results show on Wednesday night. I’m excited about the dancing, and was especially excited because I suspected that Cameron Mathison would be performing first. I was right.
Cameron Mathison and his professional partner Edyta Sliwinska performed first this evening and did a Foxtrot. Now I just love him and want him to win the competition so when he came out and started his performance I was worried. He was so stiff he kind of reminded me of Frankenstein. However, as the performance progressed he started to relax and did a nice job. The judges seemed to like him and complimented him on his arms. Carrie Ann said he made a lot of ladies happy tonight with his performance. I would say she is right on with that assessment.
Floyd Mayweather and Karina Smirnoff were up next with their Cha Cha Cha. In the interview Mayweather admits that he almost quit the show in the beginning but decided to stick it out and recognized that Karina was the boss when it came to dancing. Good decision – in fact accepting the fact that she is the expert when it comes to dancing could be the reason why he goes all the way to the finals. And I think this man has it in him to make it to the finals. The judges said he had a good performance and some great potential, but only gave him an 18. I was pretty surprised with how low the scores were. Yes it was not perfect, and yes it was not my favorite performance of the show but I thought it deserved a little better than 6’s across the board. Why do I say he could make it to the finals? He has determination or he would not have won the boxing titles he has. He isn’t afraid of hard work – his titles prove this. Plus I think he has some really good raw dancing talent. Like Bruno said, he needs to focus and channel his energy into learning good technique. If he does that I think you’ll see the winner of season 5 of DWTS.
Helio Castroneves and professional Julianne Hough performed a Foxtrot next. Wow. Julianne has the touch when it comes to crafting routines that are entertaining and great. Both Len and Carrie Ann complimented her with her choreography and said she was right where she left off last season as champion of DWTS. Len even challenged the female celebrities in the audience, telling them that this was how you did a Foxtrot. Since I had never heard of him I was not sure what to expect but having Julianne as a partner should have given me a clue to the fact that he will most likely be a contender for the title as well. He was smooth, charming and pretty good. The judges gave him some great scores, a total of 25.
Albert Reed and Anna Trebunskaya were up next with their Cha Cha Cha. I really didn’t know anything about Albert Reed before tonight except that he was good looking. Listening to him in the behind the scenes, get to know you interview I really started to like him. He seems to have a good outlook on the show and life. He stated that he realized he was the least famous celebrity on the show and because of that he had to work harder to get scores. The performance was very female friendly to say the least. The female celebrities loved it. Heck, Len and Bruno loved it and Tom Bergeron told Len to go get a cigarette. I had to ask my husband if I heard right when Bruno described Albert’s crotch action as being in warp drive. He assured me that I did hear correctly. I think with his performance tonight he won over lots of female fans and will not have to worry about his lack of name recognition with the audience. I can’t believe though that the judges gave them a higher score than Floyd and Karina.
Mark Cuban and Kym Johnson performed a Foxtrot next. He’s a lot younger than I expected. When you hear terms like “billionaire” I half expected to see someone in their 70’s or 80’s. I did laugh when I saw him taking notes on the dance. That just shows you that he is a businessman. I thought he had a really good presence on the floor. The dance wasn’t a perfect Foxtrot but the judges acknowledged that he embraced it, and if he worked on technique he could do very well. Plus Len said that Mark did not come from the world of entertainment and thus performing is foreign to him. Even without that background Len thought he did a good job, describing it as somewhere between a ballroom disaster and ballroom bliss.
Wayne Newton and Cheryl Burke performed their Cha Cha Cha as the last dance of the evening. Being a two time champion gives Cheryl an edge and by association her partner should have that same edge. Wayne Newton brings his own advantages to the competition and they come from his name and his track record. Everyone on the show seemed to be really star struck by him. Cheryl called him “Mr. Newton” when she first met him, and both Carrie Ann and Bruno commented on how honored they were to have him on the show. Compared to the other guys he is probably the long shot. I don’t know if he has the physical fitness to compete with the younger people in the competition. I was watching his performance and wondered if he would be able to make it to the end of the song.
No one tonight matched Sabrina Bryan’s score of last night. Helio and Julianne came close and I guess right now you can say they are the favorites. But this is a long season and things can change pretty quickly on Dancing With The Stars. I think it’s going to be interesting to see who goes home tomorrow night. I have a feeling it might be Josie Maran, just because I think she doesn’t have the fan base of some of the other celebrities. Too bad if it is her, because I think it could be interesting to watch her metamorphosis from week to week.

Floyd forgot that this was a dance floor; thought it was a boxing ring and did a few crouch and jab moves. He might think he has a chance, given Laila Ali did so well; but Laila could dance – Floyd can’t.
