The Amazing Race: TK and Rachel Win Amazing Race 12!
Ron and Christina were the first team to leave Taiwan for Anchorage, Alaska. Teams had to go to the 6th Avenue Outfitters to retrieve gear and the clue. Gear and Clue! But, Nicolas skimmed the clue and didn’t know they were supposed to get the gear. So he and Donald got to the next stop and realized they needed to go back to get the gear. The next stop was a Detour – Cut the Cod (where they had to fillet cod to find a mini clue inside) or Grab the Crab (look in a tank of 500+ crab for one with the race colors on it). Ron found the mini clue (boy, they weren’t kidding, it was small!) in the first fish, so they were still in first. TK and Rachel choose to look for the crab. They were just about to give up and switch when TK found the crab. Donald cut through those fish and were right behind TK and Rachel.
All teams then headed by boat to the 20 Mile Glacier. Both team members had to climb up the glacier for the next clue. Ron, who is afraid of heights, shimmied on up there, but Christina had trouble getting her footing. This allowed the two other teams to close in on their lead.
After they climbed the glacier, they took a helicopter ride to Merrill Field then a taxi to Goose Lake Park. This was what really determined the winner. At the Roadblock, one team member had to face 15 objects that they had encountered along the way. Using an instruction sheet, they had to put 10 of the objects on a platform, one from each leg of the race. It had to be correct, according to the instruction sheet, for the clue box to open. Christina, Rachel, and Nicolas all worked on it, but each one was confused. Rachel got it first and then Christina was just behind her, but that was all it took. The teams then went to downtown Anchorage to the Salmon Hooker statue for the clue that told them to run to the Girdwood Airport for the finish line.
TK and Rachel won the million, with TK saying it was “kinda freaking me out.” Ronald and Christina came in second and at some point, Nicolas finished the roadblock and they came in third. It seems like Ronald and Christina had a really good time on the race, which is good for their relationship. And, you got give Donald kudos for finishing the race at age 69. At the end, even though he came in third, the other teams were chanting “Grandpa, Grandpa.” Finally, TK and Rachel talked about how the race had strengthened their relationship. Take that, Nathan and Jennifer (although I did read an interview where they are still together).
