The Bachelor London Calling: Season Premiere

This year, the show takes a different twist. Matt Grant is a likeable, funny, British gent – the first time the show has had a foreign bachelor. I was so disillusioned after Brad chose no one last season, that I wasn’t sure I even wanted to watch this year, but Matt is so cute and funny and beside, the accent is divine! Being handsome and 6’ 5” doesn’t hurt either.

Matt did the usually greeting the girls thing as they came out of the linos. Two of them, Amanda and Robin, had lived in England for a while, so there was a connection there. I thought Kelly was pretty – she had that fresh faced California girl look. Amy was a bit much when she twirled for him then offered her hand for a kiss. Marshana had on a beautiful outfit she designed herself.

After everyone arrived, it was time for the meet and greet party. Chelsea arm-wrestled Matt, Ashlee sang him a song she wrote, Rebecca began dancing and shaking her butt, Michelle P. played her clarinet, and Denise talked politics. I am not sure what was up with her as her only screen credential was she was a former Bush aide. What does she do now? We didn’t find out and we will never know as she was one of the ones cut. What we did find out is that actress Shayne comes from an acting family – the Lamas (as in Lorenzo is her dad) family! But, she swears she is there for Matt.

Then there was Stacey. Stacey, the grad student from Chicago, had a bit much to drink, but she was obnoxious before that. If you missed the premiere, it is worth seeing it online just to see her behavior. After she rudely cut into Matt’s conversation, he asked her what would be her perfect date in London. She mentioned the ocean. He kindly pointed out that London wasn’t on the ocean. She kept telling him about her degree in nutrition and how she wants to “find a pharmaceutical that will cure something no one has thought of.” Huh? Oh, and when she thinks of London, she thinks of fuel efficient cars. The highlight of her tackiness was when she stuffer her panties in his pocket – well, he really didn’t have a pocket, so she stuffed them in his pants. To everyone’s delight, she eventually went in a bedroom and passed out. Fly back to the windy city little coo coo bird.

Matt gave the first impression rose to Amanda. She was the first one out of the limo and he said even though he didn’t spend a lot of time with her, if he could sketch his ideal woman, it would be her.

In the end, Matt chose 15 of the 25 girls: Amanda (an account exec), Chelsea (the arm wrestler who is in pharmaceutical sales), Shayne (the actress), Michelle P. (the clarinet playing administrative assistant), Marshana (the fashion designer who apparent turns into reality star New York in later episodes), Ashlee (a Helen Hunt look alike), Noelle (a photographer), Erin S. (a hot dog vender – she is really funny), Amy (the twirling nanny), Carri (the church marketing exec who chewed a piece of aluminum out of a can to break up Denise’s boring political discussion), Kristine (a personal trainer), Robin (an advertising coordinator), Kelly (in medical sales – she’s pretty), Holly (who writes children’s books), and Erin H. (an event planner). Of course, when Stacey was not chosen, she said she didn’t want him anyhow.
