The contenders and the pretenders on DWTS

For the first time this season each of the remaining celebrities had to perform two dances – on Ballroom and one Latin. I think it’s becoming obvious who the contenders are and who the pretenders are this season.

Laila and Maks. While I have to route for Laila, since she is the only female celebrity left on the show, I didn’t think she was the best performer tonight. She was really good, and she is one of the three contenders for the title, but I think there were two other couples better tonight (even if the judges didn’t agree with me). Her quickstep was awesome. It was light and really enjoyable, and I think that Len needs to take a laxative and give her the 10 she deserved for this performance. Laila’s samba got perfect scores from the judges, but it just didn’t do anything for me. I’m not an expert so me saying that doesn’t mean a whole lot, but to me I didn’t think it was worth a 30.

John and Edyta. I really like John, but it’s obvious that he is the second weakest dancer in the competition and his time on the show is limited. I thought his foxtrot was a good performance – it was enjoyable and he gave a really great performance. His rumba, on the other hand, was disturbing to me. All I thought about was Edyta’s comment that he was old enough to be her father and these visions entered my head….enough said.

Apolo and Julianne. I love Apolo and I think he was cheated in the scoring for the foxtrot. Len says that his performance was good but not great, and he has to see great from Apolo because of his talent. Huh? If a football team with a really talented quarterback wins a game but wins because of defense, does that mean they shouldn’t get the win? His performance was awesome and worthy of 10’s. Once again Len needs to take a pill.

Ian and Cheryl. I started off liking Ian, but the more behind the scene interviews I see on the show the less I like him. He was kind of a complainer this week, whining about the fact that he wasn’t scored well on last week’s paso doble. Their first dance was the tango, and it was hard for me to get into a tango to a song from Footloose. The judges called him much improved and gave him 9’s. I don’t know where those scores came from, but yet again who am I? He got good marks for his mambo, a better dance in my opinion, but still I wonder why the judges gave him all 9’s but gave Apolo an 8 for his foxtrot.

Billy Ray and Karina. Poor Karina. He is so far in over his head that you feel sorry for both him and Karina. His waltz was a disaster – I was so confused watching it because I didn’t know what he was trying to do. I understand the tactic of trying to showcase Karina, but the judges are right that he does have to dance at some point in the routine. His Samba wasn’t much better. I thought that he would have at least learned one dance really well this week, but not really. I’ll give him this – I don’t think there is any other celebrity in this competition with any more dedication, determination or heart than Billy Ray.

Joey and Kym. In my opinion they had the performances of the evening. What is wrong with Len giving them only a 9 for their foxtrot? Perhaps a romantic interlude would do him a world of good. Joey’s foxtrot was awesome, and his jive even better. Definitely the team to beat after tonight’s show.

Just based on scores I think the bottom two are going to be John and Billy Ray. Billy Ray probably has a bigger teenage fan base so he’ll probably make it through to next week. I guess we’ll find out soon enough.

Do you think the kind words from the judges about Ian had something to do with the ladies from 90210 in the audience?
