The Girls Blow Away the Guys Again

Once again, the girls showed up the guys.  This year’s talent is heavily sided with the female singers.  Jordin started the night off great with, what I thought was an unusual choice, “Heartbreaker” by Pat Benatar.  But, she sang it well.  Sabrina, who more and more each week reminds me of Gloria Estefan, was told she was a great singer, but lacked emotion.  Antonella – I guess she did better than last week, but seriously, I don’t understand why she is still there.  Well, I do and Simon addressed it tonight for the first time, saying she had “taken stick in the media” – whatever that means.

I have to go with what Simon said about Haley – she’s not memorable.  When they said Haley was up next, I was like “Who?”  Randy told her she had no pizzazz, but Paula said she sang it well.  Randy thought Stephanie’s version of Chaka Kahn’s “Sweet Thing” was just okay.  Like he said “Chaka done sung it and it ain’t gonna be sung like that again.”  Simon thought she was one of the best, but tended to do copycat performances.  I like Stephanie, but last night’s performance didn’t do much for me.  I thought “Oh no” when Lakisha started into a Whitney Houston song – you know how the judges hate that – but she won rave reviews from all three. I don’t know what it is about Gina, but I just honestly don’t care for her.  She could go home this week and I wouldn’t even bat an eyelash.  She rocked the house and Randy and Paula loved that they were seeing the real her, but I could do with less of her, real or fake.  Melinda is such a little star or as Simon said “You little tiger. I thought we had a pussycat.”  So far, she is my favorite I think.  She honestly seems astonished every time she sings and gets good reviews.  She was the best performance last night.

Did you catch Simon dissing Jennifer Hudson yet again?  He just cannot let the “stepping stone” thing go, can he?

I don’t know what it is, but some super surprising thing is supposed to happen tonight. Ryan has been touting it as “one of the most important events in Idol history.”  What it is?  Who knows.  It doesn’t seem to be a person coming on Idol because producer Nigel Lythgoe has denied the rumors that Paul McCartney or Michael Jackson would be coming on the show.  He went on to tell TV Week “it is something very special, and I did say it does involve “American Idol” and it also involves America.  It involves the viewers, it involves a whole big issue here.  It’s something that I know we’re all very proud of.  We’re going to be the first program that will talk about this sort of thing and well, it will have to wait until next time. But I can’t wait to tell you.”  Guess we will just have to watch Thursday to see!
