The Million Dollar Hippies! But TTOW still a mystery
Well I was incorrect. In the end, it came down to remembering what flags from the different countries the teams visited looked like and placing them in the correct order of visitation. Eric and Jeremy were right there with BJ and Tyler and give or take liberties with the editing it boiled down to about a two-minute difference. Not bad for ten countries and five continents and twelve legs of a race around the world. And I’m pretty sure we only heard the TTOW exclamation a few times. Maybe tomorrow morning on GMA they’ll finally reveal the meaning. But the season is over and I’ll be surprised to hear much more about it in another week or two.
Throughout both legs of tonight’s episode BJ and Tyler and Eric and Jeremy were neck-and-neck. Well, let me back up a minute and discuss tonight’s ‘two-hour episode’.
Something tells me there was some last minute scheduling changes so the execs at CBS ran the 2nd to last and the final episodes of Amazing Race 9 back-to-back. Officially, BJ and Tyler won the 12th leg in a paddle-boat sprint against Eric and Jeremy. Ray and Yolanda finally showed up in third and were saved by the final non-elimination round. As usual, they lost all money and possessions. However, when they showed up in Alaska they were properly dressed in boots and large heavy jackets. So maybe there’s a ‘trade-in’ allowance when dramatically shifting climates.
But back to the two leading teams; they both played well and BJ and Tyler even played a bit nasty by asking the hotel employees to lie to Eric and Jeremy about Internet access. There’s no doubt Tyler’s language skills in Japan helped them make up some lost time from the earlier flights, but none of that mattered in the very end.
Ray and Yolanda were continually lost. And I know I have stated more than once I’d like to have seen them win the race, but quite frankly they didn’t deserve it. In a race around the world it seems fair to expect the winning contestant to handle ‘getting around’ a little better than Ray and Yolanda exhibited. So they get a couple of cool Mercedes to cruise around in and a cool trip to Australia for New Year’s Eve – not bad for running around on a free trip.
This season was certainly better than last season’s ‘family-friendly’ fiasco – but they need to step it up on the Detours and Roadblocks. First, I want at least two teams to drop out because they simply cannot complete the task – either because it’s mentally too difficult or too damn physically exhausting. Take the Fun-Park Roadblock. It could have been pretty grueling if the team member actually had to repeatedly ride the attractions in search of their clue. But no, sure enough, at the end of the last ride there’s the guy with the sign as clear as day. Ooooh, the ‘challenge’ was to do what ten-year olds do every day. Pretty much all of the challenges were like this and it’s a bit boring. I want to see someone fail, bonk, collapse, break down, extinguish.
Congratulations, Hippies! You ran a good race. TTOW!

Seriously - TTOW (or phonetically - TATOW) baffles me.
Glad they won - although this is the first race I’ve watched where I wouldn’t have minded any of them winning. The frats deserved to win with their consistent good finishes - but the brain challenged at the end doomed them. And Ray and Yolanda I thought were always overlooked, but they really were never aggressive enough. Too bad - really liked them.

TTOW means Circle of the Universe. The hippies explain the meaning in Australia (episode #10 i believe) before heading to the Swan Bells. =)

Kat is right. I still have it on my TIVO. I think it might have been #9 but either way they said it ment Circle of the Universe.
