The Next Great American Band: The Top Twelve Named!
Friday night was the premiere of The Next Great American Band – the newest reality show from masterminds Nigel Lythgoe and Simon Fuller. The judges are Ian “Dicko” Dickson (a judge on Australia’s version of American Idol), Sheila E. (a musician who has worked with the likes of Prince and Ringo Starr), and John Rzeznik (of the Goo Goo Dolls).
We saw auditions and from those, twelve top bands were picked. They are:
The Clark Brothers: a Bluegrass/Country band
Cliff Wagner and Old #7: a Bluegrass band
Denver and the Mile High Orchestra: a Big Band/Swing Music band
Dot Dot Dot: a Modern Rock band
Franklin Bridge: an R&B/Soul band
The Hatch: a Pop/Rock band
Light of Doom: a Heavy Metal band
The Likes of You: a Pop/Rock band
The Muggs: a classic Rock band
Rocket: a Pop/Punk band
Sixwire: a Country band
Tres Bien: a Retro Pop/Rock band
There is definitely a good mixture of musical styles on this show. It’s not all just rock bands. I like that there are some country and bluegrass bands, but am really happy to see a swing band in there too.
