The Search for Elle Woods: Cassie O. Leaves
Tonight the girls had to show off their acting skills. They met with associate director Marc Bruni and did some tongue twisters (that was funny when some of the girls inadvertently cursed) and warm ups. Despite her South Carolina accent, Marc felt Bailey was the stand out. She won a meeting with Nikki Snelson, who plays Brooke Wyndham in the show on Broadway. She could pick one girl to go with her and she chose Lindsey. The two were allowed to pick Nikki’s brain about the character as the next day they would do an acting audition involving a scene with Nikki.
The judges told Nikki they wanted her to “forget” a line to see how the girls reacted during the reading. Most of the girls just froze up and waiting for Nikki to say something, despite her giving each of them the “hey, you are on the spot here” look when she “forgot” her line. The judges had concerns about many of the girls. Bernie told Cassie O. he didn’t see Elle Woods in her. Lauren was accused of having a “deer in the headlights” look, Emma was deemed “awkward,” and the judges said they wanted to see less of Autumn.
The girls were lined up and those that were staying would be called out. The judges called Bailey, Lauren, Emma, Natalie, Rhiannon, Autumn, and Celina. Cassie O., Cassie S., and Lindsey were told to exit stage right and report to the casting office to meet with the judges. Lindsey was told she looked like Elle Woods, but so did many of the other girls and she needed to make a stronger impression, but they let her stay. Cassie S. was told that she had the tools and techniques, but they wanted to see the “levels of her soul.” She was told she could stay. Bernie gave Cassie O. the bad news, saying, “I just don’t see you as the next Elle Woods on Broadway.”
Maybe it is nitpicky of me, but could the producers of the show not have found a different send off song besides Daughtry’s “Home?” That song is SO overplayed and yes, we get it, she is going home.
