The Winner of Bravo’s Top Chef is Hosea Rosenberg
Last night was this season’s “Top Chef” finale and I wasn’t really happy with the results. If you have been watching all season, you know that Stefan has shined the entire season and yet the victory last night was given to Hosea.
Everyone hated Stefan, but he seemed to have the cooking chops to back up his arrogance. As best I can calculate, Stefan won four quickfires and two elimination challenges while only appearing at the Judge’s Table three times. Hosea won one quickfire and two elimination challenges and appeared at the Judge’s Table four times. Even Carla had a better record, having tied Hosea by winning one quickfire and two elimination challenges, but only appeared at Judge’s Table three times.
Hosea purposeful chose not to do a dessert in the finale because that is weak point with him, while Stefan and Carla both served up a dessert. Even Toby Young pointed out that shouldn’t a Top Chef be well rounded enough to present a dessert to end a meal? Although they disliked Stefan’s dessert, they all agreed that his alligator soup was excellent and that his squab was the best dish of the night.
So, should the Top Chef title be awarded based solely on the final dishes? Did Stefan’s arrogance hurt him or had his excellence all season caused the judges to expect more from him that they did Hosea? Or, did Stefan just get lazy towards the end and decide to sit back on his laurels and hope to win because of past dishes?
And, what do you think about poor Carla just completely falling apart in the finale? I felt so sorry for her. Did you notice that Stefan, who was furthest away from her, went to console her while Hosea just stood there at judge’s table?
