This Week’s AI Results - WHAT???

Tonight was definitely a shocker!  Thirty two million votes were in, but were they voting for the best singer or just people they like?  As I expected, Phil, Chris S., Sundance, and Blake were all told they were safe. Jared was also told he would go through to the next round, but Nick got the boot.  I was fine with that decision, Nick was not one of my favorites.

For the girls, Stephanie, Gina, Sabrina, and Melinda were all told they were safe.  It was Alaina who was going home.  Again, not a big surprise.  I did feel sorry for her when she couldn’t sing her goodbye song though.  And what was that boom when Paula was talking that knocked out the mikes?  Even Alaina looked a bit startled when she heard it.

Anyhow, it was the second round of eliminations that were shocking.  Chris R. was told he was safe (and rightfully so).  Brandon I wasn’t sure about, but he got to stay too.  That brought it down to Sanjaya and AJ.  Sanjaya is my boy, but AJ sang circles around him last week.  In fact, I thought he sang circles around Brandon and Jared too.  I was sure Sanjaya was leaving, but Ryan announced it was AJ that was going home.  Sanjaya seemed stunned – even telling Ryan he was shocked.  Paula said it was a singing competition but this week’s voting didn’t reflect that and I have to agree.  Sanjaya almost seemed lost on the stage when everyone was hugging AJ, but it wasn’t his fault he was staying.  I really wanted Sanjaya to stay, but AJ should not have gone home.  If anyone needed to be sacrificed to allow Sanjaya to stay, it wasn’t AJ.

A similar thing happened with the second round of the girls.  Leslie was sent home while Antonella got to stay. Antonella?  Seriously, she is a pretty girl, but Leslie was the better singer.  When Ryan asked Simon if the right people were going home, his reply was “Not necessarily no” and I have to agree.  And poor Sundance, I thought they were going to have to bring in a grief counselor for him.  Every time someone go eliminated, the camera cut to him balling his eyes out.

Anyhow, I hope Sanjaya really steps it up next week. And as for Antonella, she has GOT to go next week.  She’s just not on the same level as any of the other girl singers who are left.
