Toddler and Tiaras: The Beautiful Dolls Pageant

This week’s “Toddlers and Tiaras” dealt with the Beautiful Dolls pageant in Fayetteville, North Carolina. The winner gets the Ultimate Grand Supreme cash prize of $500.

The three contestants the show followed were Kailee Nutter (age 5) from Hurricane, West Virginia, Sterling (age 5) and Paris Gary (age 3) from Moncks Corner, South Carolina, and Skylar Speas (age 4) from Leland, North Carolina.

Kailee’s mom Sarah and grandmother Debbie were both involved in the pageant life, which started for Kailee when she was four months old. Sterling’s mom Elyse feels she has a powerhouse of pageant girls and dad Quentin admits he is a pageant dad. Skylar’s mom Kimberly entered her in pageants because everyone told her how cute Skylar was and she herself was in pageants. Kimberly maintains Skylar’s eyebrows by shaving them. Not an episode of this show airs where I don’t roll my eyes at least once! Brett, Skylar’s dad is not really into the pageant thing because he said he wasn’t sure if the mothers were doing it for the kids or themselves. Brett has a clue!

Sarah admits to spending between $6,000 and $9,000 a year on pageants, but her mom and dad help out. Sterling and Paris have “magic hair” (wigs) that Elyse uses. Sterling also got a flipper because she is missing teeth. God forbid she should look like a child on stage! Elyse prayed for God to help guide her girls to a crown win.

Paris lost nails, so Elyse had to run her back to the room and put them on. She got back in time and was anxious to get on stage. In fact, she cried when she had to leave. Skylar had the opposite reaction – she didn’t want to go on stage. When she finally got there, Kimberly panicked because she was off a bit. Sarah also felt Kailee was off on stage.

Kimberly was excited to premiere Skylar’s cop outfit in the Outfit of Choice category, which said “Bad Cop, No Donut” on the back, even though Skylar had no idea what that meant. Kimberly said she knew people thought she was crazy when she was doing her routines, uh, Skylar’s routines. Pretty sure she had it right the first time! Paris had on a sailor’s suit and Sterling was a fire chief. Kailee was a rock star.

At the crowning, Paris won Queen of the Mini Miss Group B, which meant she wouldn’t be eligible for the bigger crowns. Sterling won Most Beautiful, Model Winner, Best Dressed, and Prettiest Hair (even though it wasn’t hers). She didn’t win Queen and was upset even though her mom tried to explain to her that she might win a bigger crown.

Skylar didn’t win anything in her Tiny Miss category, but was eligible for the larger crown. Kailee won Prettiest Eyes and Queen, so she got the smaller crown. She had said earlier that she didn’t want a small crown. Sterling was crying because she didn’t win more, but she eventually won the Novice Supreme. Skylar won the Mini Supreme title, but no one that had been featured on the show won the Ultimate Supreme title.

Elyse vowed not to quit until they got the cash, but I wonder how much more than $500 she spent on that one pageant?
