Toddlers and Tiaras: The West Virginia Outlaw Pageant
Pageant director Debbie promised that his week’s “Toddler and Tiaras” pageant would bring back the Old West, but I don’t think the cowboys wore pink glittery hats.
The three contestants the show followed this week were Isabella (age 6) from Memphis, Michigan, Haley Blankenship (age 6) from Martin, Kentucky, and Jayden Davis (age 5) from Charleston, West Virginia. All of the girls started pageants as babies and Isabella seemed the most normal of them all. In fact, she seemed a bit nerdy, but maybe it was just her glasses. Jayden’s mom said she was a diva – I wonder why? Why do these moms continue to think it is cute that their daughters are divas? If you are Cher and have climbed your way up the entertainment ladder and had years and years of success as a singer/actress, you can be a diva. Five year olds have no place being divas.
Jayden got her western wear outfit and the boots were a bit big. Mom Rachelle stuffed them with paper towels before the competition but was mortified when some of the tissue fell out on stage. Isabella’s mom was afraid she was too dark from the tanning, which got even darker the next day. But, they rinsed her down and it was okay. Haley’s mom admitted she was competitive and she thought maybe Haley got that from her. Hum, you think? I thought it was kind of sad after Jayden competed – she kissed her mom and her mom sarcastically said, “Thanks” and wiped it off. I am sure it was a makeup-filled kiss, but Rachelle was the one that put all that on Jayden.
At the crowning, Jayden won Prettiest Hair and Most Beautiful. Isabella won Prettiest Eyes, Sweetest Face, and Most Photogenic. Haley, who had competed at national level, won Most Beautiful. Since none of the girls won Princess or Queen, they were all eligible for the big prize. I didn’t hear a monetary amount mentioned, so I guess they just got huge trophies.
Isabella’s mom wasn’t certain she was up to the glitz level for pageantry, so she was happily shocked when Isabella won Overall Western Wear. Haley, who was used to winning, was not all that happy with Overall Mini Supreme, nor did her mom Melissa seem too happy with the third place win. Ultimate High Grand Supreme went to Jayden. Was it just a coincidence that she happened to be a West Virginia girl? I dunno.
