Tom Green
This season on “Celebrity Apprentice,” The Donald and his crew will have to deal with the crazy antics of comedian Tom Green.
Green was born in July 30, 1971 in Pembroke, Ontario, Canada, but he grew up in suburban Ottawa. In the early 90s, Green performed as a rapper in the group Organized Rhyme. In 2005, he formed the group The Keeping It Real Crew with Dust Brothers’ DJ EZ Mike. Later that year, he released his first solo rap album “Prepare For Impact.” Green has performed with Too Short, Flava Flav, and Xzibit on his live show.
Green attended Algonquin College and while there, he hosted the University of Ottawa’s over night call-in show on CHUO. Following Green’s show was one hosted by Glenn Humplik. The two became friends and joined together to host The Midnight Caller Show, where Green and Humplik would make fun of the callers. The show soon became a hit.
“The Tom Green Show” started in 1994 as a cable show in the Ottawa region. It stayed there until 1997 when it was picked up by The Comedy Network then by MTV in 1999. The variety show offered guest visits and music, but also stunts played on unassuming people, including Green’s own parents, Mary Jane and Richard. Green’s edgy stunts, such as the faux humping of a dead moose on the side of the road, rubbed some the wrong way, but many more loved his madness. “The New Tom Green Show” appeared at midnight on MTV in 2003. This show lasted several months, but disappointed some fans because it was more mainstream than they were used to.
Green has appeared in several movies including Road Trip, Charlie’s Angels, Freddy Got Fingered, and Stealing Harvard. However, Freddy Got Fingered, which Green also directed, was poorly received, garnering five Golden Raspberry awards in 2001. However, in typical Green fashion, he was only the second recipient to actually show up to receive his Golden Raspberry awards.
Green is a regular contributor to “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” and starred in the children’s television movie “Bob the Butler” in 2005. He appeared on ABC’s reality game show “Wanna Bet?” which premiered in July 2008.“In 2008, Green got his own game show on the Discovery Planet Green channel titled “Go for the Green.” Green wrote his autobiography “Hollywood Causes Cancer: The Tom Green Story” in 2004.
In 2003, Green appeared on the USO tour in Kosovo to entertain the U.S. troops. He also hosted the Canadian Live 8 concert, which raises money for Live Aid. He appeared in commercials on the Canadian Cable Public Affairs Channel to encourage people to vote in the 2006 elections. Green has selected the Butch Walts and Donald Skinner Urologic Cancer Research Foundation as his charity for “Celebrity Apprentice.”
In 2000, Green and actress Drew Barrymore became engaged. The two married after Green fought a bout with testicular cancer in 2000 and Barrymore’s house burned in 2001, but they were divorced in 2002.
