Top Chef is on for a fifth season. The show will be based in New York City and is set to air later this year. And it’s about time that the show is going to be based in New York City. When I think of fine dining the first place I think of is New York City. But then again I’ve never been to Miami or San Francisco and the only place I’ve eaten in Chicago is at the Hard Rock Café.
The producers of Top Chef are developing a show called Top Chef Junior. I haven’t heard too much about it except it will be a similar format to Top Chef and the contestants will probably be in the age range of 13 to 16.
I’ve also seen that the producers of Top Chef are working on a show called Top Chef: Masters. This show will have culinary professionals as the contestants competing in a series of weekly challenges. It’s different from the regular Top Chef as the contestants on Masters will be well know and respected seasoned culinary professionals. (The idea with Top Chef is to have more of the culinary “amateurs” or those chefs on the way up in their career.) I just hope with the Masters program that they don’t try to make it like an Iron Chef America where there is a weekly challenge and that’s it. I’d like to see professionals compete in a similar format and environment as the original Top Chef show.
