Top Chef: Ashley Packs her Knives
The “Top Chef” quick fire was a cookster.com challenge judged by chef Tyler Florence. The chefs had to create a dish using three keywords, such as “stressed umami asian.” Robin tried to pass curry off as Middle Eastern. Padma was like “not really” but Robin was going to argue with her. For God sake’s Robin – Padma is Indian, she knows curry!
The bottom chefs were Robin, Eli, and Jennifer, who was sick. The top chefs were Mike, Kevin (who never cooked Asian food before), and Michael. Kevin won and got the choice of $15,000 or immunity. He took the $15,000. I would have too!
The elimination challenge was to cook for the Macy’s Literacy Council. The chefs had to team up and cook in their own kitchen. There wasn’t enough room, so Ash and Michael went to the dining room to cook in there. The problem was they blew a circuit or something and they didn’t know, so their fish was overcooked. Michael knew the dish was not his best.
The judges did love Kevin’s kobe beef and he and Jennifer were named the winners, with Jennifer eventually getting the $10,000 Macy’s gift card. The bottom chefs were Michael and Ash and Eli and Ashley. Ash admitted he let Michael take charge, comparing him to Picasso. That made Tom say that it seemed Ash didn’t feel he would go far in the competition. Oops. Ashley admitted the overcooked prawns were her fault and she was told to pack her knives and go.
