Top Chef Masters: Suzanne Tracht Advances
The Top Chef Master this week were Elizabeth Falkner – Orson, San Francisco, CA, Graham Elliot Bowles – Graham Elliot Restaurant, Chicago, IL, Suzanne Tracht – Jar, Los Angeles, CA, and Wylie Dufresne – wd~50, New York, NY.
Their quickfire was the dreaded vending machine challenge. They had to cook an amuse-bouche using stuff they found in a vending machine. Who were the judges? None other than Season 2’s Top Chefs Ilan, Betty, and Michael. Wylie got frustrated – his sauce solidified and Ilan called his dish “too big.” Call it revenge of the contestant’s as Wylie was the judge of the vending machine quickfire in Season 2. Graham did well, receiving 4 ½ stars, but Suzanne took the quickfire with a perfect score of 5 stars.
The elimination challenge was to cook dinner for the creators of “Lost.” They could only used canned and preserved items plus a list of approved items by the creators. They had a $200 budget. It was funny watching Graham and Wylie run around the store. These two are both into cooking things in a different way and Graham was hoping to beat Wylie, just for bragging rights.
Elizabeth and Suzanne both cooked wild boar, but the waiters took away Elizabeth’s plates before she could finish putting her sauce on. She got a combined score of 16 ½ stars. Wylie, who only got 3 ½ stars for the quickfire, recovered well with a final score of 20 stars, but still was asked to pack his knives and leave. It came down to Graham and Suzanne. Graham got 20 ½ stars, but Suzanne blew him away with 22 ½ and advances to the finals.
