Top Chef: Mike Packs his Knives and Leaves
This week, Robin once again managed to remain in the bottom yet still survive on “Top Chef.” The quick fire challenge was to cook a TV dinner inspired by a show for chef Paul Bartolotta. Kevin lucked out getting “The Sopranos” and won the challenge. Not that Kevin isn’t a great chef (and my predicted winner of the show – has been for weeks now), but come on. How much easier is it to cook inspired by “The Sopranos” as say “Gilligan’s Island” or “Sesame Street.” The bottom was Jen (who seems to be losing it) and Robin while Bryan lost out to Kevin, who will have his dish featured on the Schwan’s menu.
The elimination challenge was to cook at Tom’s Craftsteak at the MGM Grand. The only problem was they were cooking for Natalie Portman and she is a vegetarian. After all the groans, the chefs sucked it up and started their dishes. Robin didn’t put her chick peas on three of the plates and that wasn’t necessarily a bad thing. The girls had an odd conversation about having a little prick in their mouth that got bigger – that was a bit…um, risqué.
In the end, the top three were Kevin, Michael (whose dish was so whacky yet good it caused Natalie to say “Who is his dealer and does he want new clients?”) and Eli. Kevin again was named the winner.
The bottom were Robin, Jen (who seemed to have resigned herself to leaving), and Mike (who seemed to exude arrogance). Once again, Robin dodged a bullet and Mike was sent home. He thought it should have been Robin that left and frankly, I think so as well. How much longer can she hang on? I think she won one challenge, but she has consistently been in the bottom for weeks now it seems.
