Top Chef: Robin Packs Her Knives and Goes Home
The Quick Fire Challenge for “Top Chef” this week was for the chefs to deliver a breakfast meal to Padma and chef Nigella Lawson in their room at the Venetian. The bottom chefs were Bryan (Nigella said there was too much vanilla) and Robin (who didn’t have enough contrast in her dish). The top chefs were Kevin (Nigella loved his steak and eggs) and Eli (she loved his take on the Reuben). I was hoping Kevin would continue his run, but Eli won the quick fire challenge. His recipe will be the only one from this season featured in the Top Chef Quick Fire Challenge book.
The Elimination Challenge was for the chefs to explore a casino along the Strip for inspiration. Michael got New York New York, Bryan got Mandalay Bay, Eli got Circus Circus, Robin got the Bellagio, Jen got Excalibur and Kevin for the Mirage.
The top dishes were from Kevin (Toby liked the Thai flavor), Michael (they loved the crispiness of his wings), and Bryan (the judges thought it had a fantastic balance). Michael was named the winner.
For some reason, Robin wanted to do something she had never done before. That has never worked out for her in the past and it finally came back to really bit her on the butt this time. Also landing in the bottom was quickly-falling-apart Jen and Eli. Eli produced a caramel apple peanut soup that Padma said she didn’t like at all and would never eat again.
I am tired of Jen’s whining. When she realized she was in the bottom three, she said “Can I just go now?” Um, as far as I am concerned – YES! But finally, the jig was up for Robin, whom Eli said had been sliding by as the lesser of two evils for weeks now.
