Top Design Final
The final was between Matt and Carisa. I thought it should have been Andrea, not Carisa who was in the final with Matt. The final challenge was to design a 1,700 foot loft. The designers found out their clients were…themselves. They have two months at home to create their design, then five days to build it. They had a huge budget - $12,500 plus $150,000 from the PDC and $25,000 for appliances.
Matt decided immediately upon seeing his loft that he was going with a 40’s theme. Both designers went over budget and stressed over that. Carisa started in again with her carpenters when they fussed about hauling the supplies up six flights of stairs. She is such a whiner! The white tape pulled the black paint off her hardwood floor – oops, but she and Carl were able to fix it. As an incentive, the carpenters were told that the carpenter for the winning designer would get $10,00 from Lending Tree. I like Ed, he is a good guy, but poor Carl has suffered so much with Carisa. I didn’t want her to win, but I was pulling for Carl.
The judges gave both rooms rave reviews. They loved Carisa’s sunken bed and hot kitchen. They loved Matt’s daughter’s room and his chic design. I was a little put off when Trudi Styler, aka Mrs. Sting said Matt was a great designer but not an architect. Hello? What is the name of the show? TOP DESIGNER!
Well, in the end, we find out that all is right with the world and things are as they should be – with Matt being named the Top Designer. Then, of course, Carisa being her bratty self said she was fine with the outcome because Matt would have been devastated if he had lost. Yeah hon, that is because he would have lost to a second rate designer. Good riddance to Carisa – may we never hear from her again!
I still think Carl deserves at least $10,000 too!

Was it just me or did Carisa seem to have mellowed in some of the behind the scenes interviews? She made an excuse that she is a very emotional person and can’t hide her feelings. No kidding. I agree that Trudi Styler was a bit harsh - if you watched Sheer Genius after the final there was an exclusive interview with Matt who said that just because you can afford a few homes doesn’t mean you know how to design them.
I’m thrilled Matt won. I think Carisa’s response that she was fine with it was her effort to tone down herself. Maybe she saw some of the earliesr episodes and realized how harsh and cocky she was acting.

Maybe that is what she was trying to do Katie. I just thought the whole “I’m glad you won because you would have been devastated if you have lost” was a bit mean on her part, but maybe I took it the wrong way. I missed Carisa talking during Shear Genius - I saw Andrea, Matt, and of course, poor Goil crying. This show was just an emotional wreck for him, but I liked his designs.
And to me, Trudi was a bit rude. Just because she is Mrs. Sting doesn’t mean a whole lot in the design world as far as I know. I loved Matt’s comments!
