Travis killed off Soap Star

This past week on I Wanna Be a Soap Star had our final six contestants acting in the mother of all soap scenes the death scene.  As Cameron Mathison explains later on in the show, there are always cast changes and actors coming and going on soap operas so the death scene is a regular and integral part of a soap opera.  Watching the previews at the end of last week’s show we saw judge Mary Beth Evans crying over the performances. You had to wonder at the time if she was crying because someone was that good or because someone was that bad.  It was because someone was that good.

At first I liked the whole idea of watching all the contestants play the scene at the same time – you know one actor delivers a line then we see another actor deliver the same line when he/she was performing – but now it’s really starting to get to me.  The judges talk about high and low points in a performance, but I can’t tell if I think the same way because I HAVEN’T SEEN ONE ACTOR DO A PERFORMANCE START TO FINISH yet on the show.  Isn’t it about time that we start to see the entire scene as a whole, not chopped up and bits and pieces from each actor?  I mean there are only 6 actors left and the scene isn’t all that long.  Couldn’t we have cut back on some of the time watching the judges being brought to tears and use that to see the performances?

Maybe I’m a heartless rat, or maybe it’s the fact that I did not see one actor play a scene start to finish, but I wasn’t really moved by any of the performances.  I’m thinking it’s because I didn’t see the scene all the way through and here’s why.  Remember the movie Beaches with Bette Midler from the 80’s?  If I watch that movie from the opening credits to the end of the show when Midler’s character takes custody of her dead best friend’s daughter I cry like a baby.  If I tune in during the middle of the movie I don’t shed a tear.  Maybe it was the same thing for me.

Unlike me, the judges were really moved by Jimena’s performance (the one that brought tears to Hogan Sheffer and Mary Beth Evans’ eyes).  They also liked Bo and Justin’s performances, but said that Yves and Ashlee need to put more out there.  They did not like Travis’ performance at all.  Michael Bruno said he was in shock as to how bad it was.

In the end the bottom two contestants were Travis and Yves, and Travis was killed off the show.  The judges said they had to let him go because it was an acting competition and he was not acting all that well.  They said that Yves had a better day in terms of acting.  Michael Bruno was against sending Travis home at first, but in the end agreed with the other two judges that even though he was a very talented actor (perhaps the most talented of all the contestants) he did not give a good performance.  Travis says that he will never make that mistake again.  When they flashed at the end what Travis is doing now, one of the movies he is acting in is Zombie Strippers.  He did a great job in the stripping scene, so I guess this is a fit for him, huh?
